DAVID A. BROOKS
On Sunday, April 19, 2015, David A. Brooks of Bethesda, MD. Beloved husband of Harriet Brooks; devoted father of Dr. Betsy Brooks, Dr. Renana Brooks and the late Professor Robert Brooks; cherished grandfather of Isaac, Meir and Professor Shimon Brooks and Tova Brooks Lerman, Rachel and Dr. Benjamin Machta, Neshama and Neilah Rovinsky; great-grandfather of Noa and Orly Brooks and Ora and Shalhevet Lerman. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, 11:30 a.m. at Congregation Beth El, 8215 Old Georgetown Rd., Bethesda, MD 20814. Interment Judean Memorial Gardens, Olney, MD. Family will receive friends and observe Shiva at the residence of Harriet Brooks starting Wednesday, April 22, and Thursday, April 23, from 7 to 9 p.m. with Minyan at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Transportation Fund at Congregation Beth El. Arrangements by Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, Inc., under Jewish Funeral Practices Committee of Greater Washington Contract.

I should have shared a memory a long time ago. David Brooks is my cousin. It´s 2024. I am middle aged now. I met loving Harriet. David and Harriet lived in a lovely condominium with a grand piano. He helped my great aunt from Ukraine a lot. He is related to me because my grandfather´s sister, Rifka, she married someone with the last name Brooks. I believe he is my second cousin. I met him. He was a certified public accountant. He was a little famous for that. There is absolutely nothing bad to say about this wonderful man. David was at my grandfather´s funeral. I wish that I could have attended his funeral. I believe that I was afraid of losing my strict job which doesn´t want their employees to miss hardly any days. That I am not sure exactly when he died. I know that Harriet and Chaiusi Isman died. All three of the people who I was fond of. I knew Chaiusi well. There was nice Sid and Lou Brooks too. Sid was a nurse. Sid and Lou died too. I know Sid and Lou better. Although, I miss everyone. They are all in a better place. And I like being related to someone famous. That is David. Also, Israel Ben Eliezer.

David was a Life Member of the Jewish Council for the Aging's Board of Directors, and he was a JCA supporter for nearly 30 years. I remember him best when he so ably filled the role of JCA Treasurer in 1991-92. His colleagues asked him time and again to spin straw into gold. More than once he did. Quietly and with a smile.
It is because of the pioneering work and vision of David and his colleagues that JCA now serves more than 30,000 older men and women each year.
At JCA, David's good name will always be a blessing.
