King of the Jukebox: Louis Jordan
In the 1940s, no self-respecting jukebox would have been complete without at least a few records by Louis Jordan. The pioneering bandleader-singer-saxophonist was one of the top hitmakers of the day, making Black and White audiences alike move their feet to his uniquely infectious tunes. Along the way, he created some of the earliest precursors to rock ‘n’ roll and rap, and his wild success on the charts—as well as in diners, dance clubs and drive-ins—led fans to dub him "The King of the Jukebox."

Cara McCollum (1992 - 2016), pageant winner
Cara McCollum, a former winner of the Miss New Jersey Pageant, has died in an automobile accident, according to multiple news sources. She was 24. McCollum died Monday after she lost control of her car and crashed into a tree last week, according to a Facebook page, Prayers for Cara, that relatives maintain. "Thank you all for this tremendous outpouring of love and support for our Cara. We can’t begin to tell you how much your prayers have meant to us in this incredibly difficult time," the page states.

Brig. Gen. Theodore Shigeru Kanamine broke ground in 1976 when he became the first active duty Japanese-American general in the U.S. Army. His rise through the ranks of both American civilian and military life began much earlier, however, when he was forced into an internment camp as a child during World War II. He would go on to law school, serve in the Korean and Vietnam wars, and finished his nearly three-decade military career as chief of staff of the First Army at Fort Meade, Maryland.
