Michael Davis Obituary

On Sept. 28, 2015, a precious angel was called to heaven when our Lord and Savior welcomed Michael Joseph Davis III home into his glorious kingdom. He was sent home with great peace and the unconditional love of his sisters, mother, grandmothers, extended family and countless friends by his side. His kindness, strength and passion will forever be missed and treasured by everyone whose life he touched, most of all his cherished sisters, mother and father. Our prince was welcomed into the joyful and grateful arms of his parents, Cara Lynn (Morris) Puryear and Michael Joseph Davis Jr. on Dec. 16, 1996, in Anchorage, Alaska. He was a hard, dedicated worker, most recently employed by Value Village and previously worked for KFC and Auntie Annie's. He was proud to have attended a variety of schools within Anchorage, allowing him to develop lifelong friendships that he carefully nurtured throughout his short but powerful life with us. Michael attended Denali, Airport Heights, Northwood and Gladys Woods Elementary schools; Begich, Clark and Mears Middle schools; and Bartlett, East and, lastly, Dimond High schools, where we proudly witnessed him earn his high school diploma this past May. Michael was scheduled to begin pursuing a degree in business management this winter at the University of Alaska, Anchorage. Ever the forward thinker and entrepreneur, Michael's plan was to be a successful businessman and own a chain of laundromats in Anchorage. Michael was an accomplished athlete as well as an avid sports fan. Most recently he qualified at the state competition level both his sophomore and junior years for the East High School track team in the long jump event. He also loved playing, watching and studying the science of basketball, football and golf. He poured through an uncountable number of books and sports documentaries, easily memorizing statistics, history and theories behind each sport. Michael was an avid reader. In addition to sports related literature, he loved reading a vast variety of books ranging from Archie comics to the most scientific, complicated works on his other great passion, wildlife. Michael was preceded in death by his papa and grandfather, Michael Joseph Davis Sr.; grandfather, Steven Morris; and uncle, Jonathan Ray Davis. He is survived by and will forever be missed by his sisters whom he loved so much, Chanel Amani Davis and Marcel Amira Davis; father, Michael Joseph Davis Jr.; mother, Cara Lynn (Morris, Davis) Puryear; stepfather, Christopher Joseph Puryear; his granny Joyce Davis; his nana and grandpa Linda and Craig Murray; his aunt, Tina Christoffersen; his cousins, Moriah Davis, Arin Hanohano and Kyana Christoffersen; his great-grandparents, Raymond and Jean Lee and Janet and Ray Jeffries; and literally hundreds of loving Davis, Fleming, Morris, Lee and Puryear family members and an uncountable number of friends who were all honored to have been touched by his spirit. Please join his family in celebrating his legacy and sending him home at Changepoint Church, 6689 Changepoint Drive in Anchorage, on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015. A viewing will be held at 2 p.m., service at 3 p.m., with a reception from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. His burial will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015, at 3 p.m., at the Anchorage Memorial Cemetery in downtown Anchorage. Michael mentioned that he wanted everyone to wear bright colors to his services: please feel free to wear neon green or other bright colors to honor his bright, life loving and joyful life.
