Dr. Benjamin F. Turner

SKANEATELES- Dr. Benjamin F. Turner, 86, of Skaneateles, NY, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on February 9, 2024. He was born on July 15, 1937, the son of the late Benjamin A. and Ethna Fogg Turner.
Ben was born in Lewiston, ME. He graduated from Edward Little High School in Auburn, ME, and studied at Fryeburg Academy prior to attending University of New Hampshire, where he was a catcher on the baseball team. He went on to study at the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University, where he graduated top in his class for large and small animals and equine.
Dr. Turner "Ben" built a successful large and small animal veterinary practice, Animal Barn Veterinary Clinic, based in Cortland, NY which later became Mid-state Veterinary Clinic. He practiced veterinary medicine in Central New York for 50 years and introduced many new veterinary techniques for treating animals.
He had a love for farming and with his wife, Carolyn, built Maplelane Manor Farm, a well-known registered Holstein Dairy Farm in Apulia Station, NY which went on to achieve top state and national awards.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, to whom he was married for 42 years; and his daughters and sons: Judy (Dana) Hoffmann, Benjamin "Scott" Turner, Susan Cicchetti, Timothy (Becky) Turner, and Katie (McCord) Christensen; step-daughters: Brenda Young and Rebecca Young; and step-son, John Young. Dr. Turner was blessed to have 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland, NY. A funeral service will follow at 5:00 p.m.
