Bernard "Bernie" W. Delaney

Phoenix - Bernard ("Bernie") W. Delaney died surrounded by family, friends, and fellow officers on February 18. He was born August 22, 1963, in Evansville, Indiana, the third of the five children of Richard Francis Delaney and Anne Munshower Delaney. He is preceded in death by his father. As a child, his family spent time in Indiana and Chicago before moving to Paradise Valley, Arizona, in 1972. He attended Chaparral High School, class of 1981, and all three of the Arizona Universities, before entering the Police Academy in 1989. He was a Phoenix Police Officer for almost 30 years and retired from the force in February 2019.

He was a true outdoorsman. His favorite activities were hunting, offroading, and camping. Some of his fondest memories were fishing trips with his brothers-in-law and Cartwright. His other great loves included baseball, his vintage Ford Bronco, and Boris the tortoise. He enjoyed family parties and playing euchre.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanne, and his two children Grace and Jacob and their mother Sonya Delaney; and his eight step-children: Daniel, Chase, Rochelle, Cole, Nick, Ginae, Nate, and Megan Falls. He is also survived by his mother Anne Munshower Delaney and his four siblings and their spouses: Maureen (Joe) Simon, Rebecca (Frank) Visconti, Shaleen (Bill) Brewer, and Justin (Marisol) Delaney. He leaves six nieces and nephews: Katherine Brewer, Patrick Visconti, Andrew Brewer, Nicholas Visconti, Ian Delaney, Ava Delaney, and two step-grandchildren and their mother: Noah, Meadow, and Jenna; as well as many aunts and uncles, including his beloved Aunt Christine Munshower.

Hard to believe it's been 7 years. We lost a great guy and a friend who'll be forever missed.
Forever remember "winner, winner, chicken dinner"!

I worked with Bernie for a few great years. He was always great for lifting the mood on a otherwise drab day. He was a great add to our training team and I could not have turned my trainer spot over to a better man. He will be missed by many. Love this guy and his "winner, winner, chicken dinner. Love ya Bernie.

Excuse this belated memory, for I had not heard of Bernard's passing until much later, and I wish to express my sympathy to his friends and family. Bernard always was very nice to me, yet I am uncertain if he treated everyone the same or he was treating me as a great and kind friend.

To Anne and the Delaney family, I was so sorry to hear of your loss. I found out yesterday when I read Father Bill's obituary. My sympathy and condolences to all of you. While I am miles apart, I still remember all the great memories with your family. May God give you his peace and love at this time. Carolyn Meisberger

To the family of Bernard Delaney. Please accept our deepest sympathy on the passing of Bernie.
52 years ago Bernie was the ring bearer in our wedding. That cute little boy with his short pants and knee socks stole the show. John and I were so pleased that we were able to visit Bernie a couple years ago.
The courage and strength that he showed during his illness are the same qualities that made him such an outstanding police officer. We know that Bernie is in heaven with his Uncle Bob (Captain Munshower) sharing police stories.
Love and peace to the family that Bernard left behind. Live on with the beautiful memories you have of Bernie.

Bernie and I worked together back in the 1990's on the N.R.U./Walking Beat. He was an excellent Officer and a great guy. He was a very giving person and was always willing to be there to help people out. I will always remember his smile and great sense of humor. Pam worked with Bernie from 2004 until he retired. Our condolences and sympathies go out to his family. Bernie was a special person and he is loved and will be missed by many. God Bless and rest in peace brother.

Bernie was such a great policeman. He was always looking for ways to improve not just for him but for those around him. I am sorry to hear that he was called home so early. My deepest sympathy to his family.

I had the pleasure of working with Bernie in 89 to 91 at the Sky Harbor and Central City Precincts. We were officers together on the 53G Squad. Bernie was an exceptional human being and police officer. He was intelligent and witty. I have fond memories of working with him. Rest in peace brother.
