John Arthur George Barrett
September 17, 1928 - June 21, 2022
Fort Lauderdale, Florida - John Arthur George Barrett of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, passed away in the early morning hours of June 21, 2022 at the Amazing age of 93 ¾.
John was born on September 17, 1928 in London, England. He was the son of the late Alfred and Mable Blackburn Barrett of Essex, England.
As a boy, John lived through the bombing of London in WWII and saw the small boats and ships go to France to pick up the wounded British soldiers.
John was a graduate of Tunbridge Wells Boys School in Kent, England and a graduate of the Royal Naval Cadet School in Hampshire, England.
John had many varied work experiences in England before coming to the United States in 1965. He then lived in the British West Indies on his Sailboat Westward for 6 years before returning to the U.S. and starting his business, John Barrett Yacht Services in Ft. Lauderdale. He was a marine Surveyor and a Yacht Captain Extraordinaire piloting Motor Yachts and Sailboats all over the Caribbean and the East Coast of the U.S. He made many lifelong friends during his adventures.
John was an accomplished artist, woodworker and an avid reader of current events, history, mysteries and politics.
John is survived by his loving wife; Kathleen Heizer of 25 years, his in-laws; Carole and James Cooke, niece; Megan (Garry) Acuncius, nephew; Thomas (Tami) Cooke, niece; Carolyne (Andrew) Thacker, niece; Belinda Barkas, nephew; Vincent (Leigh) Barkas, Cousins; Susan (Clive) Holloway, Cousins; Eileen and Doris Frost and many Dear, Dear Friends and extended family.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his former wife; Violet Barbara Barrett, his sisters; Elsie Barkas, Lynn Lowe, his brothers; Anthony Barr….ett and Arthur Barrett.
John and Kathleen enjoyed many years sailing their own yachts and on cruise ships to countless ports.
The next time you are in your favorite pub, please raise your glass to John with his favorite drink, a gin and tonic. You may see his infectious smile in your glass! He will be greatly missed.
Charitable donations can be made to the Animal Rescue of your choice.
A Celebration of Life will be held from the Event Center of Lake View Funeral Home 1:00 pm, July 2, 2022.
Family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the hour of service.
Mr. Barrett will be laid to rest at Lake View Memorial Gardens.
