Born January 23, 1925, in Woodsboro, MD, he was the son of the late Roger W. and Neva (Pauline) Crum. He was raised by his grandparents, the late Pete and Minnie P. Donsife. Crum. Wayne graduated from Walkersville High School in 1942, where he played soccer, basketball and baseball. He played semi-pro baseball for many years in Frederick and Carroll counties, and was considered a pro prospect at one time, as a pitcher. During World War II, he served with the Maryland Minute Men to warn the citizens of his community in case of attack. Asthma prevented Wayne from being accepted in the military. He, along with his wife, were avid duckpin bowlers, bowling in Taneytown, Westminster, Union Bridge, Walkersville, Baltimore and Frederick. In his younger years, Wayne enjoyed trips to Gettysburg and Williamsburg, as well as, spending time with family and friends. In his later years he enjoyed oyster dinners at New Midway Fire Dept. and Walkersville Fire Dept., attending his grandson's baseball games at National Little League, MARVA Babe Ruth League, Thomas Johnson High School, Frederick American Legion and Mid Maryland Select Travel League. He also enjoyed watching his granddaughter play basketball, and bowl duckpins. Wayne was the manager of the VFW Babe Ruth baseball team in the Frederick 16-18 Babe Ruth League for many years. He was also a member of the Frederick County Slow Pitch Softball Umpires Association. Wayne was a store manager for both the Food Fair and Pantry Pride food chains, and a member of Local Retailers Union 367. Wayne retired from the grocery business in 1981. Mr. Crum ran on the Republican ticket for Frederick City Alderman in 1973. He won the primary election, however, he was defeated in the general election that year. Wayne was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where he served on the church counsel for many years. He loved his Baltimore Orioles and was an avid Miami Dolphins fan after the Colts left Baltimore. He enjoyed watching and listening to the games on television. Wayne's greatest qualities were his honesty, his integrity, his love for his family and friends, his sense of humor, and his love of God and country. Wayne will be dearly missed by special friends, Danny Miller, Mike Edwards, Dickie Main, Bob Thompson, David Molesworth, and Betty Fox Eyler. Also, all the boys at Shrivers Meats, that he would call every week and make their day. Todd,
After reading the comments about your Dad I now know where you got your personality and willingness to serve the community. As they say..."apples don't fall far from the trees".
Ginny Sulcer was correct with her observation that you are a physical image of your Dad.
I am certain your Dad was proud of you and that you will miss him deeply.
Sending condolences to you and your family,
Nancy Hendricks

Todd and Family, I am very sorry for your loss. I have such sweet memories of Mr. Crum from my early childhood. I loved going to the Food Fair with my Mom. Mr. Crum's office sat up on this raised platform. He would let me sit up there with him. You could see the whole store. He would do tricks, and we would tell knock-knock jokes, and he would let me play my ukulele for him. When I got older and played softball, it was always a pleasure so see his big heartfelt smile behind home plate. He was a real gem, and will remain in my heart forever. My prayers are with you.

Mr Crum was part of the greatest hide and seek game ever played. His house was beside a cemetery. We younger fellas hid in the cemetery. Todd and Louie would round us up and deliver us to Mr Crum who surely made us sorry we got caught. Upon delivery he would promptly give us knuckle noogies in the arm. After what seemed like eternity, he would let us go.Man, he could give a good noogie!!!!!!!
