Matthews, North Carolina - James "Jim" Webb was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on October 5, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Anson County, North Carolina, son of William Clayton Webb and Mamie Gulledge Webb. He graduated from North Carolina State College (NCSU) with a degree in mechanical engineering and retired from a career with IBM in 1994. Jim enjoyed beekeeping, gardening, and hunting, but his favorite times were those spent with his family. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Matthews and served in many areas of ministry throughout the years.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, William Clayton Webb, Jr., and by his granddaughter, Katherine Louise Hough. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 63 years, Anita Hamer Webb, and their five daughters and their families: Mary Louise and Ronnie Hough and their daughter, Lauren; Nancy and Curtis Hare and their children, Will and Elizabeth; Carol Webb-Gargagliano and her daughter, Callie; Susan and Steve Lyons and their son, Sam; Jeanette and Brian Castle and their son, Zeke. He is also survived by his sister and her husband, Ann and Sam Ballard, and by brothers- and sisters-in-law, Blanche Webb, Marvin and Betsy Hamer, and Philip and Barbara Hamer, as well as many nieces and nephews, all of whom admired him very much.
A graveside service will be held to honor his memory on Friday, October 8, at 1:00 pm at Forest Lawn East Cemetery, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Matthews, North Carolina, 28104.
