Robert F. Smith, 86, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2016. Bob was a good and loyal friend and supportive and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great grandfather. He is a Korean War Veteran and retired from The City of Memphis Fire Department as Deputy Chief after 36 years of service. Bob had a passion for hunting, fishing, and golfing and loved to spend his free time outdoors. He was a member of Grimes Memorial United Methodist Church where he found joy in being of service to his community, family and friends. Bob was a season ticket holder for the University of Memphis Tiger football and basketball for more than 20 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, LB and Myrtle Smith and three sisters. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mattie Smith; two sons, Robert W. Smith (Tina) and Tommy Smith (Laura); a daughter, Debra Lynn Smith; one sister, Mary Bennet; two brothers, Norman and Merlin Smith; seven grandchildren, Joshua Smith, Caleb Smith, Kyle Smith, John James, Caitlin James, Courtney Smith, and Lindsey Smith; two great grandchildren, Madalyn and Abigail Smith. Family will receive guests Sunday, November 13, 2016 from 4-6 pm at Family Funeral Care, 4925 Summer Ave. Memphis, TN 38122. A funeral service will be held Monday, November 14, 2016 at 10 am at Family Funeral Care. Burial will be held at Memphis Memorial Gardens on Germantown. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Grimes Memorial United Methodist Church 4649 Summer Ave. Memphis, TN 38122.
