John Raytar, 81, of Harwinton, CT, beloved husband of Barbara (Sherwood) Raytar entered into the gates of Heaven on Friday, May 24, 2024, surrounded by his family at his home.
John was born in Bridgeport, CT on November 18, 1942. He was the son of the late John and Stella (Wozniak) Raytar. John served in the US Navy on the U.S.S. Thor. After an honorable discharge grom the US Navy, John began his career in the trucking industry. John retired from ABF Trucking in Waterbury, CT in 1992. John enjoyed playing golf with the senior league at Farview Farms Golf Course in Harwinton. He also enjoyed classic cars, having owned a few himself, and often attended local shows with his wife and family.
Besides Barbara, his wife of 61 years, John leaves behind is three cherished daughters, Sheila Tammaro and her husband Ralph of Waterbury, Sherry LeClerc and her husband Robert of Harwinton, and Kristine Raytar of Torrington; his five grandchildren, John Tammaro, Cassandra LeClerc, Michael LeClerc, Austin Pelletier, Branden Pelletier; and his great-grandson John Tammaro. John is also survived by his siblings Barbara Dizenzo and her husband Charles of Florida, Linda Koulouris and her husband Gus of Waterbury, and Robert Raytar and his wife Theresa of Naugatuck.
John was predeceased by his grandson Ralph Tammaro.
A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Hickcox Funeral Home, 195 Main St., Watertown, before processing to Mount Olivet Cemetery, 669 Platt Rd., Watertown, for burial. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 8:30 a.m. until the start of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in John's memory to the DAV National Headquarters, 860 Dolwick Dr., Erlanger, KY 41018 to the attention of Remittance Processing/DAV In Memorial.
