Neil Judge Obituary

Neil D. Judge
Neil D. Judge, age 79, of Trumbull, CT, formerly of Stratford, passed away peacefully in his home on January 15, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Neil was born in Inwood, New York, to the late John and Margaret Judge. He was the devoted husband of 55 years to Mary Anne Mulheren Judge, whom he always called his "bride," and loving father to his three devoted daughters, Jane (Larry) Bonassar, Megan Judge, and Abby Judge (Patrick Tutek). He was the best Poppy to his seven grandchildren, Anna, Amelia, and William Tutek; Maggie, Lizzie, and Jack Bonassar; and Maeve Judge, who were the light of his life. He was a great big brother to his five brothers and sisters, Nancy (Robert) Swift, Janet (Richard) Dowling, Laurie (Jim) Stanley, John (Gwenn) Judge, and R. Patrick Judge; his sister-in-law Catherine Mulheren; and his brother-in-law James Callahan; and so enjoyed his many nieces, nephews, and godchildren. He was predeceased by his loving sister Bonnie Callahan.
He was the Director of Athletics for thirty-four years at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, New York, where he coached every team at some point during his tenure. Known and loved throughout the Mercy community, "Mr. Judge" always reminded Mercy's student athletes that they were "students first, athletes second." His wall of pictures of his athletes receiving their diplomas was his pride and joy. He was inducted into the ECC Hall of Fame in 2018 and received the Mercy College Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017. Just last month, Mercy celebrated the dedication of the new Neil Judge Student Athlete Center.
Friends and family are invited to attend his funeral services on Friday at 12:30 p.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 220 Shelton Rd., Trumbull. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 1056 Daniels Farm Rd., Trumbull. Friends may pay their respects on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at Cyril Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Road, Trumbull. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Mercy or the Neil Judge Student Athlete Center. For more information or to leave an online condolence, please visit wwww.mullinsfh.com

Dear Judge Family, sending my deepest condolences to you all.
Mr. Judge was the kindest man and coach.
I was blessed to have met him in my college years.
I was a student athlete at Mercy College in the years 1982-1986.
A member of the Women´s basketball team.
After playing basketball for three years.
I decided; I was not going to play basketball my Sr year.
Mr. Judge was his usual self one day. He had received word that I chose to stop playing basketball. He asked me "did you tell your parents of your decision?" I said no! Never even thought of losing my scholarship.
Mr. Judge said "can you play softball (he was the softball coach that year)?" I said "yes but I haven´t played since high school."
He said "meet me on the softball field after your class."
He hit me softballs. We walked off the field together he said "kid you made my team and starting position."
Mr. Judge turned my basketball scholarship into a softball scholarship (the softball scholarship didn´t match my original basketball scholarship) so he added an academic scholarship. The two scholarships (softball and academics) matched my basketball scholarship. My Sr. year playing softball for Mr. Judge was the greatest year of playing sports.
He believed in me... I have never forgotten his kindness and my parents at the time where eternally grateful...Mr. Judge changed my life forever.
May he eternally Rest In Peace.

To the Judge Family
My deepest condolences to the family of Our Athlete Director. I´m a member of the Women´s Basketball Team 1982-1985. Mr Judge was instrumental in making sure that I received my college degree. After playing three seasons under the leadership of Coach Shack I had to get a full time job to support myself. I was 5 classes short from graduating. I spoke with Mr Judge and he said, your scholarship is good as long as you need it. Because of this wonderful man I was able to complete my courses and received my degree in Psychology. I thank you Mr Judge for showing grace and mercy toward me.
