Samuel D 'Onofrio Obituary
Samuel R. D'Onofrio, age 96 of Milford, passed away peacefully at Connecticut Hospice on Wednesday June 19th, 2013. He was predeceased by Carmela (Curri), his loving wife of 55 years, and his son Samuel Jr., as well as five brothers and sisters. He is survived by his daughter-in-law Linda D'Onofrio, son Richard D'Onofrio and his wife Julie, together with his three precious granddaughters Dina (Michael) Sabo, Susan D'Onofrio (fiancée of Tim Lettellier), and Michelle D'Onofrio (boyfriend Gary Stackpole), all of Milford, and great-grandchildren Zachary and Emily Sabo. He also leaves a host of friends at the Milford Senior Center, and the Milford-Orange YMCA.
Samuel served his country during World War II at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, DC assisting wounded soldiers in learning to use their new artificial limbs. He retired from the Canteen Corporation, where he was a Maintenance Mechanic-First Class.
The family would like to thank the staff of Yale New Haven Hospital for the exceptional care and comfort given, particularly Sarah and Nicola of the ICU, and Danielle and Aida from the East 7-5 Unit. Thanks also to his extraordinary caregivers Sophia Wollery and Howard Williams.
He wanted to be remembered "with a song in my heart, and a smile on my face!"
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 22nd at 9:00 am (MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH) at St. Mary's Church, 70 Gulf Street, Milford. Committal to follow at King's Highway Cemetery, with full military honors. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are being handled by the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT 06460. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Samuel's name to the Milford Senior Center, 9 Jepson Drive, Milford, CT 06460. I am so sorry for loss. I have enjoyed all the fun stories from Susan over the years. Pop sounded like a wonderful man. I know he will be missed by all.
