George Hunt Obituary

Entrepreneur, guitarist/singer, bibliophile, dog-lover and charitable human being, George W. "Buzz" Hunt passed away from a heart attack on Monday, December 23, 2013. Born to George and Frances Hunt on October 12, 1938 in Glendale, Ca, he lived in 18 cities his first 20 years due to his dad's work transfers and the U.S. Army. This constant adapting to new situations made him the outgoing, friendly man that he was. Buzz graduated from Shawnee Misssion North High School in Shawnee Mission, Kansas and from the University of Kansas with a degree in Finance. He was a Sigma Chi. It was at K.U. that he met and married Betsy Fernie in 1960. With a Navy ROTC scholarship Buzz spent 4 years on active duty as an Engineering Officer, sailing the Atlantic, Mediterranean and around Africa. Three sons were born, Chris, Peter and John; blue-eyed towheads just like their dad. In civilian life Buzz worked for Scott Paper Co. on the east coast. But in 1968 the family moved to Boulder where they have a family cabin. Buzz worked for DCL Biomedical, then became a Medical Management Consultant, a position he held for 25 years. During those years the family enjoyed camping and hiking in the mountains of Colorado and canyons of Utah. In 1990 he formed his own company, Medical Environment, Inc., in response to the government's OSHA requirements for medical clinics. Selling his video, handbook and newsletter training materials to clinics nation wide, Buzz achieved the success he had always longed for. In 2005 he sold the business and retired. Survivors include his ex-wife, Betsy, sons Chris and John and their wives Lois and Michele; grandchildren Dylan, Keenan and Peter; sister Gretchen Wood; nieces and nephews Kristina, Chip, and Blake Wood, and Amy Daly. Buzz was preceded in death by his mother, Frances; father, George; and son, Peter. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Contributions may be made to the Boulder or Longmont Humane Societies.

Rest in peace, Buzz. Condolences to Betsy, his boys, grand children and extended family. This is one family we will always remember from our days in Colorado. Free spirits, all! Found this picture of Buzz taken back in the seventies, probably around 1978 or 1979 at our little house in Longmont. Must have been someone's birthday.
