Joseph J. Sauer

MT. MARION - Joseph J. Sauer, 96, of Kings Highway, died Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at the Kingston City Hospital. Born March 5, 1925 in Gardner, NY; he was the son of the late Louis and Elizabeth Sauer. Joe worked the Sauer farm with his father starting in 1939. He took over ownership at his father's passing wth his wife Jeanette. Joe farmed the land for 82 years, with the help of his sons Joe and Cliff, and daughter Sue for the last four decades. Their eggs, vegetable and corn crops are enjoyed by numerous Saugerties area families and the dairy portion of the business is still in operation by sons, Joe and Clifford. Active in the community, he served on the Town of Saugerties Planning Board for 30 years, the Mt. Marion Fire Co., served on the boards of Agway, the Agriculural Stabilization and Conservation Services, and was a member of the Saugerties Antique Auto Club.Survivors include: his wife, Jeanette, with whom he recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary; two daughters: Catherine, ( husband Jim Hangate) of Mass., and Susan ( husband, Victor Sachar) of Mt. Marion; three sons: Richard (and Mary Ellen Boice) Sauer, Joseph ( wife, Mary) Sauer and Clifford Sauer (and Indira Velasquez), all of Mt. Marion. He is also survived by a sister, Mildred Anger of NC., 15 Grandchildren, 17 Great Grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews He was predeceased by his siblings: Theresa Leeds, Helen Lievre, Dorothy Myer and Henry Sauer and a grandchild, Mindy Lee Sauer. Marion Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc., Cor. of John & Lafayette Sts., Saugerties.
