Samantha BARTLEY Obituary

HAMPTON - Brent D. Bartley and Julie E. Bartley of Hampton are sadly grieving over the very sudden death of their youngest daughter, Samantha Lynn Bartley. Samantha was born here in Newport News on Dec. 27, 1990. She would have been 20 on Dec. 27.
Nineteen is so young to leave this world. Samantha is preceded in death by her Grandpa and Grandma Stallings who loved her so much, and her uncle, Roger Stallings. Roger would have been a grandfather on Christmas by his only daughter, Jessica Stallings.
Samantha never got to see the baby but was able to go to a beautiful shower at Jessica's apartment. She got to experience a lot in her 19 years. After high school, she joined the Army. She lacked graduating because she hurt her knee. Wow, how many petite girls take on something so grueling and rarely complained in her letters home. She was an ace shot as well. We were so proud with anything Samantha did. She was fluent in French, and what a math wiz!
She had goals of going soon to college to be an accountant. What a vibrant beautiful girl, if you were lucky enough to know her, you could never forget her. So many loved her.
She leaves behind so many to cherish fond memories of a very bright, funny, very smart, and beautiful girl.
Our beautiful baby. She leaves behind her parents, Brent D. Bartley and Julie E. Bartley of Hampton; her big brother, Robert Jason Wade, who called her "Manchu". He was so protective of her and her best friend; her loving sister, Casey, her son, Ameri, who Samantha cherished. She loved her nephew, Amari, though she said she never wanted her own kids. She loved all her nieces and nephews; and her very loving brother-in-law, Naguan, who needs all our prayers as he recovers.
She was so loved by many, too many to name, but here are a few; her buddy, a sister forever, Sonya; Lance, Asa, Tamara, Kevin, Robbie, Tim Simmons, and so many, many more to name. Her beloved, Matt and Jessica, her cousins.
She is survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, Douglas and Marcel Bartley and Mary Jane Bartley.
Samantha is now our angel watching over us. We miss you and love you forever.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Riverside Altmeyer Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Jerry Jutas, 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home followed by burial in Parklawn Memorial Park.
Riverside-Altmeyer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

To the Bartley Family,

I was saddened to hear of the tragic death of Samantha. Samantha was a student in my English class during her junior year at Bethel High School.

Samatha was the student everyone wanted to teach; she put forth the extra effort, was pleasant and respectful and knew what she wanted in life. She often spent her lunch time in the library reading or getting ahead on assignments.

Samantha was truly one of "the good who died young." I am happy to have known her.

I knew Julie in High School. Even though it's been 40 years, my heart goes out to her and her family. I cannot possibly know their pain, they have my deepest sympathies.

Hear my prayer, O Lord; listen to my cry for mercy. Psalm 86:6

I met Samantha once and although I didn't really know her... I knew she was a really sweet young lady. I know that her Dad was very very proud of her in many many ways. My heart goes out to you, Brent and to your family. I know the holidays will never be the same for you. But, know that even though Samantha will not be there...she will be watching over you and blessing you with the memories of the times you had together. I will be praying that the Lord comforts you in your time of grief and gives you the strength and courage to get through this. May God bless you and your family.
