JAMES STONE Obituary

James L. Stone, 70, of Venice, Florida, formerly of Golden, Colorado, lost his battle with brain cancer on January 1, 2019, and passed away peacefully with his family at his side. Jim earned a BA degree from the University of Denver in 1970 and it was here that he met his wife, Dona, whom he married in 1969. He graduated from the University of Denver College of Law in 1973. Jim practiced law with Fairfield and Woods, P.C. in Denver for 25 years, handling complex civil litigation until he had a serious bike accident in 1997. Due to Jim's tenacity and resilience, he launched a new career as a mediator and arbitrator in 2001. In addition, he taught as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Denver - Sturm College of Law. Jim had wide ranging recreational interests including a love of golf, scuba diving, skiing, traveling, sports, and socializing with friends. His intellectual interests were equally diverse. He was a lifelong learner and loved history, politics and reading. Jim's journey in life was filled with accomplishments, challenges, happiness and joy. He loved and was loved. He had a zest for life, a quick wit, and enjoyed a good laugh with a smile or chuckle not too far behind. Jim is survived by his wife of 49 years, his brother Larry, his sisters-in-law Debbie and Cheryl, his brother-in-law Tom, three nieces, a nephew, and his beloved black Lab, Kona. A celebration of Jim's life is planned for Spring 2019 in Colorado. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
