Michael Smith Obituary
"Trouble"
Mike was born April 20, 1947 in Logan, Utah to Mercer Dunn and Helen Swenson Smith. He passed away peacefully with his family at his bedside on Saturday, May 12, 2018, in Murray, Utah after fighting a terminal illness for the past year and a half. Mike attended his school years in places like Germany, Logan, Cedar City and graduated from East High School in Salt Lake City in 1966. In that same year, he met the love of his life, Christine Baker and they were married on September 15, 1967, in Salt Lake City. They were blessed with two amazing sons, Michael Jr., and Christopher and on Mike's birthday they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1979.
Mike retired from Questar Gas Company in 2001, after 34 years of the service to the community.
Mike was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was a kind and loving man that had a big heart who gave his all to his family.
Mike had many callings in the Church and loved serving others. He served as bishop of Murray 8th Ward. It was during their time in Murray they became the proud grandparents of three beautiful grandchildren: Gil, their grandson; Taylor and Maiya, their granddaughters-all of Salt Lake City.
Mike is survived by his wife of 51 years; their sons, Michael (Dion), Christopher and their three grandchildren; sister, Patty (Raymond) Johansen; and many extended family members throughout the world and here in the U.S. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Mercer and Helen Smith.
We wish to thank all of the caregivers at Legacy Village Rehabilitation for their kindness in helping Mike during this difficult time. We also thank the doctors and nurses at IMC Hospital and want them to know how grateful we are for seeing to Mike's needs as his health declined.
A visitation to celebrate Mike's life will be Saturday, May 26, 2018, from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State Street.

We want you to know of our Love and Friendship over the years...we missed out not knowing you and Mike in the Rose Park North Stake. Time has a way of getting away from those who we know and have learned from over the years.
