Ruby Ream, a sterling example of the American spirit, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2024, following a long illness. Born to Lee and Elva Brown in Newkirk, Oklahoma on September 8, 1932, Ruby was the middle child, sandwiched between her two brothers. All 3 siblings were known for being physically very strong and beautiful. Ruby embodied the grit and determination that exemplified the Greatest Generation.

After a semi-nomadic childhood, Ruby's family settled in the Provo area, where she met and married Dave Jensen on June 14, 1950. Their young family moved to Lander, Wyoming, in 1962, where they built a life together until their divorce. Ruby was mother to five daughters and always made sure their home was graced by her sense of glamour and style.

Ruby married her second husband, Paul Ream, on September 20, 1976, and they remained together until his death in 2007. Working hard, the pair built Ream's Food Stores into a successful chain of grocery stores throughout northern Utah. When Paul passed away, Ruby took charge of the business, continuing to drive its success with the same relentless determination she applied to everything in her life.

Ruby was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Millcreek 2nd Ward for many years, holding many callings in her ward and stake, including serving the young women and in the Relief Society. She maintained her devotion to her faith through the end.

Outside of her work and faith, Ruby was an avid gardener who maintained a beautiful yard, a reflection of her attention to detail and love of nature. On the tennis court, she was a formidable opponent, never backing down from a challenge and always striving to excel. Ruby had a remarkable talent for decorating her homes, achieving a timeless classic look while ensuring they always felt cozy and inviting. Her elegant touch made every space she lived in both beautiful and welcoming. Ruby was also renowned for her exceptional culinary skills, particularly her spectacular Christmas and Thanksgiving spreads that became cherished family traditions. A tireless worker, Ruby was known for her impeccable organization and always presented herself with grace and beauty.

Ruby showed her family how to achieve the American Dream by living it fully and fearlessly, leaving behind a legacy of strength and inspiration for her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Ruby is survived by her five daughters, Randy (Richard) Mathey, Lonnie Burton, Diane Loader, Paula (Rod) Allred, and Lisa (John) Balog, as well as her 16 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, and husband and she loved and missed each of them fiercely to the end. She was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be missed.

A viewing will be held the night before services on August 28 at 6:30-8 pm at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street. Funeral services will be held on August 29th at 11 am with a viewing prior from 10am to 10:45 am at the Millcreek 2nd Ward located at 4220 South Jeannine Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah 84107. Services will also be available via zoom which can be found on the Jenkins-Soffe website.
