Michael and I had a friendship like a long strand with widely spaced pearls. Given the physical space between us, our encounters were irregular, infrequent, and always treasured. There was a gentle intensity about him I found in no other person. I love him and look forward to the possibility of adding another pearl to our strand.

Michael and I shared many wonderful and amusing experiences around the time of the building and opening of Glenlaurel. I lived with his mother while he was working on the project in the Hocking Hills. He was a dear friend, a consummate host, and compassionate soul.

Michael impacted many lives, including mine, in many positive ways. He had a loving curiosity about the inner lives of other people. He had the ability to draw another person out of themselves and to nurture them with tender loving care. He could speak the most important truths without offending, and give advice like a wise old sage. He took on ambitious projects for love of the challenge and the realization of dreams. In his own way, he contributed greatly to making a better, happier, more caring world.
