Denise F. Golden

1951 - 2024

Denise F. Golden, age 72, of Jacksonville, Fla., passed away Dec. 7, 2024. Born Dec. 26, 1951, in Jacksonville, Denise was the first of four children born to the late Eldophus and Vernita J. Holmes.
Raised in Fernandina Beach, Fla., Denise's childhood was filled with faith and community. She was an active member of Elm Street Church of God, where she sang in the choir and worked lovingly with the children's ministry. A bright and driven student, Denise graduated as Salutatorian of the last graduating class of Peck High School in 1969.
Denise pursued her passion for caring for others by studying nursing at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. Her call to serve extended beyond academics when she enlisted in the United States Army in 1972, before transitioning to the United States Navy. Her military service took her across the globe, reflecting her giving spirit and dedication to her country.
For nearly three decades, Denise brought compassion and professionalism to her work at Vicar's Landing Retirement Community in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. She was known for her kind demeanor and profound commitment to the elderly residents she cared for so deeply.
An avid reader, Denise cherished discussing books and current events, often sharing her funny anecdotes with those she loved. Her warmth, intellect and kindness left a lasting impact on her family, friends and colleagues.
Denise is survived by her loving siblings, Celeste Merrix (Willie, deceased), Jennie Blue (Kim) and Eldolphus Holmes Jr. (Lisa); her cherished niece, Celestial T. Holmes; her beloved nephews, Stuart Tucker Jr. (Antoinette) and Ayden Holmes; grandnieces, Allejah, Sariyah and Serenity; grandnephew, Amere; and her special work family at Vicar's Landing.
Denise will be remembered as a beacon of kindness, compassion and strength, leaving behind a legacy of love and service that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
A graveside funeral service will be held, Tuesday, Dec. 17, at 11 a.m. at Bosque Bello Cemetery, 1321 N. 14th St, Fernandina Beach, FL 32034.
