VERTA CARLSON Obituary

Verta Carlson was born on October 14, 1927, in Reno, NV. She passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2018, at age 90 and a half. Verta graduated from Fresno State College and taught school in Parlier and Fresno Unified School Districts totaling 30 years. She thoroughly loved going to work each day to make a difference in a child's life. Along with her teaching, she raised four children and was a wonderful mother to them. Verta was an excellent dancer and loved to go dance at The Rainbow Ballroom. It was there she met her future husband, Art Carlson. She would always say, "If he can't dance, why would I be interested?" She was active in her sorority, The Lady Lions, Bible study, church, choir, the cooking club, Shapemakers gym, Stone Soup and taking care of her grandchildren. She took up snow skiing at the age of 40, after giving birth to Tanell. She kept herself busy and never had a bad word to say about anyone. She was always "finding the best in everyone." Verta and Art visited many places around the world but her two favorite places were Pismo Coast Village and Camp Richardson at Lake Tahoe. The Carlson family spent most of each summer away from the Fresno heat, in their trailer, Carlson's Cozy Castle. They enjoyed many times camping with their special friends from Arcadia, CA, Fresno, and Lodi, CA. She loved celebrating her children's birthdays and Christmas, the birth of her Savior, Jesus Christ. Verta is survived by her husband Art; and children, Tonya and husband Jerome, Greg and husband Craig, Tori, and Tanell and husband Mitchell. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Andrew, Nick, Auna-Kristina, Megan, Kendra, Carlson, and Manda-Taylor; and many friends that will miss her dearly. If you knew her, you knew true devotion, loyalty, and unconditional love. She will be deeply missed by all. "Till we dance again..." Special thanks to Bright Horizon Hospice; Right at Home; and Palm La Paz Funerals and Cremations. We appreciate your support and comfort. A Memorial Service will be held at Riverpark Bible Church on September 22, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. with a celebration luncheon to follow. Please share your memories at palmlapazfresno.com. Sorry I couldn't make it today. What a great family that I've had the privilege to know since elementary school. Verta and Art have to be one of the nicest couples I've met and my grown children think so as well. Say hi to my mom till we meet again!

She was a neighbor of mine for 19 years. I will always remember her and Art and the rest of the family. May she rest in peace.

John & I were in a small group at NorthWest Church for several years with Art & Verta. She was kind & caring; had a good sense of humor & was a wonderful hostess. After her car accident she showed patience & longsuffering. We'll miss her gentle smile & wit. So glad we'll see her again in heaven. Sincerely with love, Lucy Frost

My Mom was one of a kind and she and my Dad went together like peanut butter and jelly=awesomeness! It was an honor to be her youngest daughter. We celebrate her life on earth and I can't wait to see her in heaven for eternity.

Class, dignity, kindness, charity. This fantastic woman had it all. For any doubters, look to her fantastic family as proof of her endeavors. She will be sorely missed here.
