Richard Lind Obituary

MASON CITY - Richard "Rick" Lind, 49, of Mason City, died Saturday (July 12, 2008) in an accident.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday (July 16, 2008) at the First Presbyterian Church, 100 S. Pierce Ave., with the Rev. Paul Collier officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today (July 15, 2008) at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. in Mason City.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Richard Lind Memorial Fund.

Rick was born on Sept. 11, 1958, in Willmar, Minn., the son of Robert Lind and Ruth Anderson. He moved to Iowa with his family in 1966. Rick graduated from Mason City High School in 1976. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force. After being discharged he went on to attend Iowa State University.

On Sept. 14, 1996, he married his high school sweetheart, Dawn Cannella, in Mason City. Since 1991, Rick has been working for Thomas E. Jolas P.C. as a legal assistant.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he was a former Deacon; a former member of the Moose Lodge; former Census Committee chairman; and founder of the North Iowa Soccer Club.

Rick enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, rock climbing, bike riding, soccer, cooking and along with that - eating. He loved to be outside and took pride in his yard work. He also enjoyed watching the Iowa State Cyclones, working on computers, remodeling and playing with his dogs. Rick was a friendly and outgoing person. He loved to socialize and would talk to anyone.

He is survived by his wife, Dawn, of Mason City; his children: Heather Roth and special friend, Jeremiah Meizis, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Amanda Roth and special friend, Kevin Hill, of Mason City, and Andrew Roth "Little Andrew" and special friend, Kelli Ciavarelli, of Mason City; his father, Robert Lind and special friend, Gwen Smith, of Mason City; his mother, Ruth Anderson and her husband, Ken, of St. Ansgar; his mother-in-law: Elaine "Gramma C" Cannella, of Mason City; one sister, Patti Kratz and husband, Bob, of St. Ansgar; two brothers, Steven Lind and wife, Nancy, of Cedar Falls, and Kurt Lind and wife, Pam, of Mason City; three stepbrothers; four nephews, Tyler Lind of Cedar Falls, Ryan Lind of Mason City, Ryan Boyle and wife, Amber, of Oregon, and Ben Boyle and wife, Megan, of Rhode Island; four nieces, Brittany Lind of Cedar Falls, and Leah, Linae and Paige Escher, all of Mason City; and two sisters-in-law, Candy Boyle and special friend, Kurt, of Oregon, and Kristin Escher and husband, David, of Mason City. He is also survived by his dogs - or as he called them, "his boys" - Jake and Max.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Andrew and Myrtle Lind and Roy and Mildred Blomquist; his father-in-law, Anthony Cannella; and his brother-in-law, Michael Canella. He was also preceded in death by the family dog: Cupcake.

I'm so sorry to hear about Rick's passng. He was a great person and friend. We used to ride bikes together back in the 80's. We lost touch when I moved to Arizona. He will be greatly missed.

I lost track of Rick when I left Mason City in 1991 and I was shocked to see the story of his accident in the Cedar Rapids paper. My prayers go out to his family. He was a heck of a guy.

My sincerest sympathy to the Lind family. I sub at ReMax ocassionaly, and Rick would always find time to say hello and visit. He was so proud of his family. I heard all about the girls prom, camping trips, hiking adventures, and especially the holidays. He loved to cook for everyone. He will be truly missed
