Charles Nelson Obituary

Charles "Charlie" Nelson, 54, of Toledo, OH, formerly of Manchester, died suddenly Monday, (April 30, 2001) at home. He was born on September 9, 1946, in Hartford, to the late James and Rita (Gantiner) Nelson. He was a graduate of Central Connecticut State College and was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving his tour in Vietnam from 1965-1966. Charlie was a former Hartford police officer. He worked for the Hartford Insurance Company for many years, retiring just two weeks prior to his death. His survivors include a daughter, Tamara Nelson of Toledo, OH; six brothers and their wives, Gary and Margo Nelson of Tombstone, AZ, Jack and Marion Nelson of East Hartford, Howard and Julie Nelson of New Britain, Paul and Joan Nelson of Bristol, Dave and Kathy Nelson of Wethersfield and Ricky and Tina Nelson of South Windsor; two sisters, Barbara Nelson of Hartford and Christine Nelson; and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, May 19, 10 a.m. at Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm St., Rocky Hill. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charlie's memory may be made to the Make a Wish Foundation, 940 White Plains Rd., Trumbull, CT 06611.
