Elizabeth Gray Obituary

GRAY, Elizabeth R. Elizabeth R. Gray, widow of Lawrence H. Gray, formerly of Farmington, died (May 28, 2006) at her residence in Maine. She was born in New Haven, daughter of the late Harry and Gertrude Riedel and lived in Farmington from 1960 until 2003. Her determination and desire to do the right thing was apparent in her steadiness and commitment to people, her family, causes and the Town of Farmington. She spent many years as the Business Manager of Gray Advertising in New Britain and was a partner in Corporate American Gifts. Betty was an accomplished artist, a devoted mother, and a selfless servant to the town of Farmington. She spent many years on the Board of Education and The Farmington Town Council serving on almost every Building Committee as well as numerous subcommittees of the town. She was on the Board of the Farmington Art Guild and the Council of Grace Lutheran Church, in Plainville. She was a long term member of the Farmington Democratic Town Committee, on the nominating committee and ran many political campaigns on the local, state and national levels for the Farmington Democrats. Betty loved the beach, her rose garden, opera and "jiggling" with children who followed her like the Pied Piper. She leaves to mourn, her son, David L. Gray of Long Beach, CA, her daughter, Victoria J. Gray of Farmington, and her daughter, Melanie Gray Nichols and husband Larry (Nick) Nichols of Falmouth, ME. She also dearly loved her granddaughter, Mackenzie Riedel Nichols. She also leaves her sisters-in-law, Hannah Gray and Gloria Jennings, a niece and nephews and many friends who will miss her greatly. She was predeceased by her brothers Harry and John. Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville TODAY, from 6 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 2, at 11 a.m. in Grace Lutheran Church, 222 Farmington Ave., (Rt. 10), Plainville, with Pastor Stephen Brisson officiating. Burial will be in the family plot at Riverside Cemetery, Farmington. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Farmington Library, Monteith Dr., Farmington, CT 06032 in Betty's memory would be appreciated.

I truly do miss Betty very much. I was fortunate enough to meet her at our Bay Square assisted living facility in Yarmouth, Maine. She was a very endearing person and I would ask about her beautiful granddaughter every chance I got.I will always remember how her face would light up at the mention of that beautiful child.Heaven truly has another angel. Love and miss you Betty. Gwen Basinger

Betty was a good friend and will be missed. She had a great capacity to listen, understand, and solve problems. Her energy and enormous contributions as an Art Guild board member will not be forgotten.

Betty will be missed by many. She was a strong woman with a wonderful personality. I will remember many debates and the laughter we shared about them.

I will always remember Betty for her spunk and passion. Several years ago, I was lucky enough to receive a beautiful stained glass piece she had designed. I think of her every time I look at this work of art.
