Hazel Miner Obituary

Miner, Hazel (Burr) Hazel (Burr) Miner, 88, of Killingworth Rd., Higganum, wife of the late James B. Miner, Sr., died Thursday, (January 8, 2009) at Middlesex Hospital. She was born in Deep River, the daughter of the late William and Ruth (Spencer) Burr. She was employed with Merriam Corporation and later retired from Bull Metal as a press operator. Hazel was a member of St. James Episcopal Church and bowled with the Middletown Women's League. She is survived by three sons, Robert E. Miner, Sr. and his wife Doris of Chester, James B. Miner, Jr. and his friend Tracy of Higganum, and Craig Miner and his wife Connie of Killingworth; two daughters, Bonnie Carlson and her husband David of Higganum, and Geraldine Hutra and her husband John of East Haddam; seventeen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Bob Weed, Lisa Dwyer, and Frank from New Hampshire. She was predeceased by a daughter, Beverly Miner; three brothers, Franklin, Clarence, and Raymond Burr; a sister, Helen Nash; and two half-brothers, Frederick and Hilbert "Pete" Maynard. A Memorial service will be held Sunday, January 18 at 2 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, 498 Killingworth Rd. (Rte 81), Higganum. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Middlesex Hospital Weiss Hospice Unit, c/o Dept. of Philanthropy, 28 Crescent St., Middletown, CT 06457 or to St. James Episcopal Church, PO Box 829, Higganum, CT 06441. Biega Funeral Home has care of the arrangements.

I always have fond memories of Hazel. She was always kind and welcoming to me at Bull Metal. I am sorry for your loss.

I had the pleasure of knowing Hazel Miner which i always called Gram because she made your feel like you were one of the family. She was a wonderful person who made you laugh everytime you were with her. She will truly be missed by everyone.

There is no one else quite like my Gram. She always welcomed everyone with kindness, a laugh and a smile. She was the heart of our family and will be missed more than I can imagine. Keep her in our hearts and memories and we will forever continue to feel her love.
