Kenneth Caouette Obituary
CAOUETTE, Kenneth R. Kenneth R. Caouette, 48, of Rocky Hill, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, (August 2, 2006), at Hartford Hospital surrounded by his loving family, friends and neighbors. He was born in Spokane, WA on February 12th, 1958, son of Eleanor M. and Kenneth R. Caouette of Greenfield, MA. He leaves his wife Carolyn A. (Smiley) after 25 years of marriage, his daughters Mary Beth and Michelle. Besides his parents, he is survived by his three sisters, Debra A. Maslauskas (Greenfield, MA); Lynne M. Markley (Remington, VA) and Karen J. Conley (Ellington); and several nieces and nephews. He is a 1976 Graduate of Greenfield High School, where he participated in soccer, basketball and track; a 1980 graduate of UMASS, earning a B.A. in Accounting. He was a self-employed certified public accountant. He was very involved in youth athletics and activities in Rocky Hill, having coached softball, basketball, and soccer. He was also a USATF certified track official and a longtime member of the West. Mass. Track and Field Officials Assoc. He was a member of the Rocky Hill Elks Club, a member of the Greater Hartford Jr. Chamber of Commerce, an active member of St. Andrew the Apsotle Church and a member of the vestry committee. He was an avid RED SOX and PATRIOTS fan and a member of the UMASS Athletic Association. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 5th at 9 a.m. from the Giuliano-Sagarino Funeral Home at BROOKLAWN, 511 Brook Street, Rocky Hill followed by services in St. Andrew the Apostle Church, Orchard St., Rocky Hill at 10 a.m with Rev. Dr. William Veinot officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, Aug. 4th from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Internment will take place following the service in Greenfield, MA. I have just learned of the passing of Ken...and am in such disbelief..and grief. My thoughts at a time like this and after all these years is he is still my C&L first baseman, my Patriot road-trip buddy, and for all the times where Ken brought and still brings a smile to my face. I just heard the sad news of Ken's passing and my heart broke for all of you.
I knew Ken as a classmate and member of the track team at GHS, and haven't seen him since our 20th class reunion. I have fond memories of his (very) patiently helping me study for a science final our Junior year. He was such a nice person and had a way of elevating all those around him with his kindness and wonderful sense of humor. I can imagine him being the most wonderful husband and father.

I first met Kenny when he was our camp counselor back in the old Greenfield Parks and Recreation program in the mid-1970's, and he was a great mentor to all of the kids under his care. We were all blessed to have known him..While it has been more than twenty years since I had last seen Ken, every memory of Ken includes a smile and light hearted thought.Always upbeat you couldn't help but smile every time you met him. I wish I'd known Ken better; still, through our school years, due to the happy accident of having a name so close to his alphabetically, I often found myself seated near him. I kept my ears open for Ken's whispered jokes and comments, which were always witty, but never mean sprited. And while Ken was an excellent student and athlete, it was his decency that set him apart.

To the Caouette Family, my emotions have gone from shcok and disbelief to deep sorrow. Many memories have been flashing through my mind, and I would like to share them: walking/riding bikes to Pierce St School, 7-up, kickball, wiffleball, track and field games in the backyard, Elks Club Little League Team, swimming in the backyard pool (but not too much on game days), going on vacation to Lake Winnesquam when my father had the bleeding ulcer attack, working at Finast (starting in the Meat Dept with Uncle Leo), Doobie Brothers concert with Norm LaCoy and Bill Shea, commuting to Umass, playing golf in January at Greenfield CC one year when there was no snow during intercession, meeting in Daytona Beach after tax season (before kids), talking over/through the bushes. And now, tears. He was a great guy.

Carolyn, MaryBeth and Michelle, My first encounter with Ken was when I interviewed for a position with J. Morrissey in '99. I remember his engaging personality and sense of humor during that meeting. We saw each other at various association meetings through the years and he always acknowledged me with a warm smile and a hug even though we worked together for less than six months. To the entire Caouette family: My connection to Kenny was primarily through his father, but also through UMASS and the accounting profession. We probably only talked one or twice a year and if the topic was not business related is was either about sports or his family. I was shocked to hear of his death. My memories of Kenny are that of a boy who possessed the traits that made you love to be around him all the time... Because he made You a better person. I met Ken many years ago when he volunteered at the Canon GHO as a Tent Captain when I chaired Food Concessions. Ken always had a smile on his face and a kind word to offer. Mrs. Caouette, MaryBeth, & Michelle - My family and I were so sorry to hear about the loss of your husband and father.
