Thomas DURKIN Obituary

DURKIN, Thomas, Jr.

Thomas M. Durkin Jr., 55 of Middletown, cherished husband of Connie (Hazuka) Durkin passed into eternal life on Wednesday, October 9th at Smilow Cancer Hospital after a courageous battle with thymoma cancer. Tom was born in Middletown March 6, 1958, son of the late Thomas M. Durkin, Sr., and Jean (Smith) Durkin. Tom grew up in Cromwell where he was active with baseball and CYO basketball. That passion stayed with him as he coached his son's baseball and soccer teams. He was the owner and operator of a Thomas' Bakery Goods franchise. He was a communicant of Saint Sebastian Church. Of all that Tom achieved, he was most proud of his family and being a dad. He was a loving and devoted father to Jeffrey Philip Durkin and Joseph Paul Durkin. All that knew him were blessed to have witnessed and been part of his amazing spirit, resolution and joy of life. He lived every moment as a gift always finding something special in everyday. Tom always had that mischievous Irish twinkle in his blue eyes and could light up a room with his great sense of humor, smile, laughter and lively personality. Besides his wife and two sons, Tom is survived by a sister, Doris Kuzminski and her husband Caz of MA, brothers, James Durkin and his wife Martha of Rocky Hill, Robert Durkin and his wife Grace of CT, sister-in-law, Patricia Sitkiewicz of Middletown, several nieces and nephews and many close friends.
His Funeral Liturgy will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Sebastian Church, Middletown. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the Biega Funeral Home Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. In the true spirit of Tom, the family would like to ask for everyone to perform a random act of kindness. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice. To share memories or express condolences online please visit www.biegafuneralhome.com.

Words can not express my sorrow at hearing about the death of "Tommy". Tommy was my first best friend. He taught me what being a good friend was; fun, supportive, and loyal. Although we have not kept in touch, the little girl who adored the kind neighborhood boy with the stutter (I never really noticed), is heartbroken.

I hope Tommy's family takes comfort in knowing that he truly affected another's life for the better. Someday I know I'll hear that knock on the door, and the "can Nancy come out and play". Rest in peace, dear friend.
