Ruby Taylor Obituary

Ruby Taylor
Durant, OK - Ruby Emily Taylor, beloved Mother and Grandmother left us January 19, 2021, with family at her side. Born November 1, 1916 to William Henry Ford and Nora Jane Ford, she married Samuel Oliver Taylor on October 14, 1933 at age 17. They began their marriage as sharecroppers in Fords Academy, Texas. Two children, Patsy Ann Walters and Sandra Lee Fain were born to them. She never tired of learning and as a child at Fords Academy she repeated the sixth grade rather than end her education. Without instructions, she played the organ and piano. She earned her Master Gardener Certificate at the age of 85 in 2002.
Eventually, they moved to Dallas, Texas subsequently moving to various towns in Texas and Oklahoma ending up in Durant, Oklahoma. Rather than leave behind her friends, with every move, she continued her friendships. Her church life fed her over her lifetime. Ruby was a gentle spirit who exemplified quiet love for all. Heart-felt memories are of Ruby and her animals. Never was there an animal she did not love. We watched her with her cows, horses, rabbits, chickens and her pigmy goats. Included in her entourage were her cats and any injured animal who could crawl to her house to be healed with silver nitrate and care. Ruby was graced with the ability to know joy in lean times. She was a child of the earth and left behind that legacy of enriching the soil for her beautiful flowers and vegetable gardens. With every move, she left her flowers to replant on the next. Of her joys, she loved people, a hot game of dominoes and on sunny days with her children and grandchildren, nothing could compare to fishing in the pond. Ruby was fed by the presence of her family and our memories will be the shine on her face and her laughter from having fun with the people she loved.
She was preceded in death by her husband Sam, grandson Kerwin Miles Alexander and daughter, Patsy Ann Walters. In our grief, we find solace knowing they are together.
Ruby is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Robert) Fain of Billings, Montana along with grandchildren, Samuel (Vicki) Alexander of Enterprise, Alabama, Judy (Tommy) Davis of Oklahoma City, Pamela (Mike) Odum of Durant, Oklahoma, Gayna Doto Oklahoma City, Davin (Amy) Alexander of Oklahoma City, Kirsten Termuehlen of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, Douglas (Cheri) Oakes of Roberts, Montana, Todd (Kelly) Oakes of Billings, Montana, Sommer Fain of Seattle, Washington and Robert (Sowmya) Fain of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She leaves behind many great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2021, 10:30 A.M. at American Funeral Service Chapel, Colbert, OK with Brother Richard Gage officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery, Durant, OK. Family and friends visitation will be Friday, January 22, 2021, 6 – 7 P.M. at the funeral home.
