Alfred Jones was born at Lillie Kemp Hospital, Independence, La., Sept. 12, 1955, to Albert and Ellarena (Hills) Jones.
Alfred graduated from Benton Harbor High School in June 1973, where he continued his education at Central State University in Mount Pleasant, Mich. He received his master's from Spring Arbor University Jackson, Mich. Alfred was a Mason at the lodge in Muskegon Michigan, while employed at the Brooks Correctional Facility at a Recreational Director.
He was employed by the state of Michigan for 37 years before he retired in 2018. Alfred was known for his travel through the state as an administrative assistant where he resolved issues within the prison with professionalism throughout the northern area of the state.
Alfred loved meeting new people as he loved to talk, play games (like chess) and talk to his family about the direction of life they should go. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Most of all, he was a wonderful brother, dad, grandfather, uncle and friend. Alfred was a great uncle and as he took time with each nephew and niece to call them at least monthly. He would give advice to help them be successful in life. He has a son that he loved dearly and spent a lot of time showing him how he should approach life. He loved his granddaughter, taking one back and forth to work daily and the 7-year-old telling him how life should be for her. That brought a smile to his face.
As sisters and brothers, he loved each of us and showed in the way he dealt with each of us. Alfred will leave a huge void in the life of his family. God has selected a jewel for his kingdom.
He leaves to cherish his memories his son, Alfred Jones Jr.; two granddaughters: NuRyia Robinson and Eden Rose Jones, five sisters: Cathy (James) Yates, Audrey Yates, Rosemary Holloway, Cynthia Jones and Kathy Jones of Benton Harbor; two brothers: Albert Jones Jr., of Benton Harbor, and Ronnie Jones of Indianapolis; a special friend and daughter, Lee Ann, who shared many years of companionship with him; and Nikki Robinson of Jackson, Mich.
Services will be at Second Baptist Church, 600 Donald Adkins Drive, Benton Harbor. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Sept. 30. Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Crystal Springs Cemetery, Benton Harbor. House of Johnson Funeral Home, Jackson, Mich.
