Amos Lewis Obituary

Amos Lewis

Titusville, FL

"....the steps of a good man are ordered by The Lord."   Psalm 33:23

With saddened hearts, we wish to inform you of the glory entrance of our Dad, Grand-daddy, Pops, Deacon Amos Lewis on Tuesday, November 11, 2014, surrounded by his family. Deacon Lewis, beloved father of Deloris Ray-Ferguson (David), Amos M. Lewis both of Titusville, FL and Mitchell Lewis of Mims, FL; grandchildren, Wendy, Michael, Amory, Rontaveus, Rhea, Nishelle, Chantal and Brooke; great-grandchildren; and a host of other family members, has left a great legacy.

A man of faith and vision, he was the founder of the former Sunset Funeral Home of Titusville, which later evolved into Lewis-Ray Mortuary, Inc. where his daughter is the owner and Director. Mr. Lewis has proudly served his community for over 40 years and is known far wide as a man who gives back. He was ordained a Deacon in 1964 at St. James Missionary Baptist Church, Mims, and has served as board chairman during various pastoralships.  He lent his melodious tenor voice to the various choirs and recently attended services singing his favorite song, "Look where He brought me from."  Always humble, never taking credit for himself, he gave all thanks to the God he served. He was a mentor, advisor, warrior for the less fortunate, and a king to his family who left his mark on this earth.

Calling hours are Today, 11am - 3pm at his own Lewis-Ray Mortuary, Inc., 1595 S. Hopkins Avenue, Titusville.  A Celebration of Praise is scheduled Thursday evening from 5pm - 8pm at Greater St. James Missionary Baptist Church, 2396 Harry T. Moore Avenue, Mims.

Additional visitation is scheduled Saturday, 3 - 6 pm at St. Mark Baptist Church, St. George, SC.  The Celebration of a Life Well-Lived is scheduled for 1pm Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Lovely Hill Baptist Conference Center, 5905 W. Jim Bilton Blvd., St. George, SC. His temporary resting place is Britt Cemetery (Texas Community), St. George, SC.  In lieu of flowers the family ask donations be made to the B. Ruth Lewis Scholarship Fund, the National Kidney Foundation, or Hospice of St. Francis.

Arrangements are preciously entrusted to the Lewis-Ray Mortuary Family.

Precious memories, how they linger . . . it's hard to believe a decade has come and gone but the lined hymns you so eloquently raised permeate the sanctuary. Truly God has continued to smile on those you have ministered to on your earthly journey. . . As the hymn "He's a Battle Axe in the Time of a Battle" echoes on -- Rest On Deac, Rest On Deac!

God has smiled on Greater St. James Missionary Baptist Church for allowing Deacon Amos Lewis to grace us with his presence. As he lined hymns - my favorite - "Father I Stretch My Hands to Thee", I can hear his voice echoing throughout the sanctuary - Truly God has smiled on GSJ. Rest on, rest on... such precious memories.

So thankful that God, in His infinite wisdom; has allowed my path to cross with Deacon Amos Lewis. His melodious voice, calm temperament, words of wisdom and; most importantly his charge-to-keep with our Almighty God echoes throughout Greater St. James Missionary Baptist in the spiritual realm. Deacon Lewis has undoubtedly etched precious memories, sealed into the archives - which will linger in the hearts for evermore.... Rest on Deac - Thankful for his life - Respectfully submitted, Sis. Kathy Bellamy.
