Dee Roberts Obituary

Dee Roberts
Dee Annette Roberts, 74, Pocatello, passed away from lung cancer, Saturday morning, January 4th, 2014. Her daughter Becky was attending at her side.
She was born December 2nd, 1939 in North Platte, Nebraska to Earl and Marjorie Lake. She graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1957. Following graduation, she worked as a cashier at Yellowstone National Park at Old Faithful and remembers the 1959 earthquakes well.
In 1960, she married David Roberts in Twin Falls, Idaho, and they immediately moved to Chadron, Nebraska. During their marriage they also lived in Hot Springs, South Dakota, Twin Falls, Rupert, and spent the last 40 years in Pocatello. While living in Twin Falls she was a volunteer for United Way, earning outstanding worker awards in 1973 and 1974. She was secretary for the Red Cross in 1972. President of the PTA of Washington Elementary School in 1974.
Dee owned and operated Dee's Ceramics in Pocatello for 19 years. She first opened her shop on Main Street and later moved to the Westwood Mall. Through the years Dee taught hundreds of students, some of which have remained her best friends after her shop closed. She was loved and admired by all her students and she loved them all in return. She taught many special techniques classes in Southern Idaho and Northern Utah and she won various top trophies at the Ceramic Association competitions. Dee also wrote a technique book called "The Look of Soft Sculpture" which sold 40,000 copies. The last 10 years that she ran her ceramics shop she made desserts to take to her night classes. She loved to cook and bake and was very good, thinking several times about opening a soup and dessert café.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Dave, who also passed away from small cell lung cancer on September 27, 2013. Dee is survived by her two sisters; Rae Lake of Austin, Texas and Kay McClellan of Washington City, Utah. Dee is also survived by her three daughters and a stepson: Cindy (Jeff) Laws of Twin Falls, Idaho; Becky (George Papadopoulos) Roberts of Boise, Idaho; Kerry (Bill Coward) Roberts of Bullhead City, Arizona; and, Dave (Linda) Roberts of Meridian, Idaho. Six grandchildren: Tim Roberts; Emily (Corey) Hobbs; Matthew Laws; Benjamin and Nicholas Papadopoulos; and Cody Fowers. One great grandson, Stetson Fowers.
Funeral services will be held at graveside on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at 11:00 am at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 2864 S 5th Ave, Pocatello, with Father John Worster, officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to graveside services at the funeral home Thursday at 10:00 am Cornelison Funeral Chapel, 431 N 15th Ave, and then travel immediately thereafter to the cemetery for the service. The family is requesting casual attire.
The family would like to thank Harrison's Hope Hospice in Meridian with a special thank you to Cinnamon, Megan, Beverly, Deborah, and Kristen in acknowledgment of their loving care and attention.
