Arthur Hauge Obituary

Arthur Ronvald Hauge, 89, of Nampa, passed away on Friday afternoon, Dec. 22, 2006, of natural causes while surrounded by his family. The funeral services will be celebrated at Crossroads Church in Nampa on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow with military honors in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Caldwell There will be a public viewing on Thursday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel. Arthur was born in 1917 in Minneapolis, Minn., and there attended public schools. Spending much of his time at the gym, playing handball, he won the Midwest Handball Championship at age 19. He hitchhiked to Los Angeles two times for job prospects before the age of 20, but returned home to Minneapolis. He converted to Christianity at the age of 21 and shortly after, he entered the armed forces and served as a medic on the front lines. He was nominated several times for valor in action. Arthur, having proposed on his first date, married Vivian Langren in 1945 in Minneapolis when he returned home from WW II. They were married for 60 years. He began his ministry in Beaverdam, Wisconsin. He preached and gave evangelistic services throughout the Midwest while living in a travel trailer. Arthur, Vivian, and five of their children lived in a trailer until their children started school in Estherville, Iowa in 1957. Then, the family of five moved to Los Angeles for two years before relocating to Hibbing, Minn. in 1959. For the next 11 years he pastored the Hibbing Village Church before moving to Nampa, Idaho in 1971 where he spent the next 29 years as the minister at Calvary Baptist. In 1978 he began his prison ministry every Tuesday afternoon at the Idaho State Penitentiary until three weeks prior to his death. Arthur loved watching his grandchildren perform on the stage and on the court. He filled his days with concerts, sports, and coffee shops. Arthur spoke with all 14 grandchildren during his final three days and blessed them greatly with his humor, faith, and courage. He was such a blessing, he will be missed. Arthur had no brothers or sisters and was preceded in death by his wife Vivian on Sept. 23, 2005. He is survived by his five children, Faith Hauge, Rebecca Stallcop and her husband Paul, Stephanie, Stephen Hauge and his wife Teresa, and Paula Mikkelson, all of Nampa. It has been a real blessing to get to know Art Hauge as volunteer Chaplain in our Prison. We had a Memorial service hosted by inmates in Prison (Idaho State Correctional Institution) and it was an awesome testimony to know how many lives he had touch in prison through his sacrificial times (25 years of volunteer) in Idaho State Correctional Institution.
I am blessed to be his brother in Christ and a friend of him through prison ministry. May his legacy pass on to the younger generations and to all of us who can learn from his footsteps.
Blessing

Its a little difficult feeling sorry for a man who finally achieved what he worked his whole life for! Pastor Hauge was the epitomy of the words "practice what you preach". He was and always will be for me one of the finest people I have known. He was so good to our family and especially when my Dad died. He was so helpful to David for so long and his prayers for Aaron whom he "kept in his back pocket" were deeply appreciated! He will always be my Pastor!
My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family, especially Faith, Becky, Stephanie, Stephen and Paula. May God and your many happy memories keep you comforted.
