Kenneth Houck Obituary

Houck Kenneth Baker February 19, 1951 - July 11, 2024 Age 73, of Jenkintown, PA, passed away on July 11, 2024 of metastatic prostate cancer. Born February 19, 1951, Ken was a self-aware and modest man, with a great well of creativity which he expressed through his writing and painting. He was an historian by inclination and spent hours tracing his family's roots back to 17th century England and Germany. Ken also had a passion for fencing, martial arts, fishing, and shooting, and maintained his physical strength through weightlifting, a practice he began in his teenage years. In 1973, Ken graduated from Bloomsburg State with a bachelor degree in secondary education, but he chose to work in behavioral health. He took time off in his mid-life to attend the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts where he studied with Elizabeth Osborne and he continued to paint until his death. Ken is survived by his loving wife, Lisa (Biello); brother Donald E. and sister-in-law Joanne (Burkley), nephew Zachary and niece Catherine (Casey); sister-in-law Laurie (Nagle), nieces Lisa, Caryn, and Jennifer and nephews Fred and Brett; brother-in-law Robert (Biello) and sister-in-law Lois. He was preceded in death by his father Frederick L., his mother Catherine Nell (Baker), and his brother Frederick B. Houck. Ken's Llewellyn English setters, Sherlock and Rupert, were second only to his family in his heart. A private Celebration of Ken's Life is planned. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to World Central Kitchen, an organization Ken passionately supported. Ken's legacy of curiosity, strength, and creativity will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.

Our prayers and thoughts are with Lisa and his family!
Ken was a dear friend and we will miss him terribly! We remember our good times when we went fishing, talking about Fencing and Martial Arts and when he was in our wedding! We still have one of art pieces from years ago!
Rest in peace, dear friend!
Our hearts are with Lisa, during this difficult time!
Peace, love and light,

I met Kenny when I was 3 or 4 years old and we were best friends through elementary school. He lived across the street and less than a 1/2 block from my house on Primos Ave., in Secane. He and his family moved up the hill to Broadway Ave., which was the last street before the Bazaar of all Nations and the street that leads to Devil's Elbow. Like Ruthann, I also sledded down Devil's Elbow with Kenny. Before the Bazaar was built the bulldozers came and dug out the earth from Baltimore Pike to the Muckinipattis Creek.

We used to call that dug out area the desert and there was a cliff that was createted along Baltimore Pike. Between the creek and Broadway Ave. there was woods.

Kenny and I spent many days playing in those woods and fishing with a net for minnows and crayfish in the Muckinipattis. We also tried to climb that cliff many times but never made it to the top. Kenny always had many Ideas for things to do and we did them. I haven't seen or heard from him since the mid 70's but I think often of those times and how wonderful those days were. REST IN PEACE KENNY!
