Richard Steele Obituary

Steele, Richard Eugene Steele, Richard Eugene, 75, beloved husband of Robert Parrish, passed away peacefully from complications of diabetes on January 23, 2017 in Palm Springs California. Born on January 8, 1942 to the late Milton and Vivian Steele in Monroe Wisconsin. Survived by his Aunt Ramona Komprood, his sister Patricia Anderson, sister-in-law Ann Steele, Robert's daughter Heather Merkow and husband James Merkow. Preceded in death by his brother Gerald Steele. Richard graduated from High School in Gratiot Wisconsin; went on to get his BS at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater and his MBA at the University of Wisconsin Madison. He moved to Milwaukee in 1964 where he taught business, typing and shorthand at John Marshall High School for 34 years. While teaching he also was one of the first "house-flippers" - buying a house, moving in, redecorating and after finding another challenging abode selling it and moving. The summer school break of 1978 found him wall papering and painting a house for the Milwaukee Women's Symphony League Showhouse Fund Raiser where he was approached to cater the Preview Party which grew from 50 to 200 guest...thus launching a new chapter - The Richard Steele Party Planners - where he would cater private parties for individuals to large charity and business events. In 2005 he started Richard Steele Transitions after helping seniors downsize from their large home into Senior Housing...using all their own fabrics and possessions so they felt at home. Richard met Robert in June of 1994 and they have been together since - in 2011 they moved to Palm Springs California and were married October 9, 2013. They have been passionate supporters and fundraisers for the fight against AIDS They travelled the world extensively. They entertained elaborately for all occasions, surrounding themselves with their incredibly dear and treasured friends from Palm Springs and Milwaukee. Richard and Robert truly shared a WONDERFUL LIFE!!! As they have always said "Rejoice for the Memories of the Wonderful time spent together. They last FOREVER" A Celebration of Richard's life will be scheduled later. In lieu of flowers, donations maybe made to Aids Resource Center of Wisconsin (www.ARCW.org) or Desert Aids Project (www.desertaidsproject.org)

My condolences to your family. Mr. Steele was my office ed teacher at John Marshall for two years (11th & 12th grade). He was also my favorite teacher. I actually don't remember any other teacher or faculty except him. Class of '79

What a love this man was!!!!! He loved a good meal, he loved a good drink, he loved to travel, he loved his homes, he loved to laugh, he loved his friends, he loved Robert! He will never, ever be duplicated! Lucky are all our friends in heaven that he is now their love! The testimonials from his former students are just priceless. What a great loss we have suffered!!!

Mr. Steele was my homeroom teacher at John Marshall High School from 1968 to 1972. He was the kindest man. During those brief fifteen minutes, he always managed to make us feel we mattered and were heard. Even for those of us like myself who were shy and quiet, he had a way of gently seeking us out and giving us the opportunity to voice our thoughts.Thank you, Mr. Steele for getting this introvert sanely through high school. You have always been remembered fondly.

What can I possibly say that hasn't been said about how wonderful Richard was and how his loss has impacted all. I only knew Richard but a few short years but he was always warm, friendly, and a kind gracious man with class. Always impeccably dressed and a host beyond words. My condolences to Robert and everyone who knew Richard. You will be missed Richard with your warm smile and compassion!

My sincere condolences to Robert and Richard's family and friends. I heard he was sick and I called him last month and left a get well message on his answering machine.
Richard was my homeroom teacher from 1965-66, but we remained friends for all of these years.
