Just thought of John today. My daughter is moving to the KC area. I can still hear his drawl saying "missourah". Met him in Chicago via mutual friends. God bless.
Memories of you are eternal!

Dear Barry and Phil,
I was so very saddened to read of John's passing in the latest Pembroke Hill magazine.
May you and your family take comfort in your memories of a fine young man.
God bless you all

To the Starr Family:

I'm very saddened by your loss and extend my condolences. John was a classmate of mine at Pem-Day, and we also were acolytes at St Andrew's. John was a really nice, friendly guy. He showed me around Pem-Day, and was gracious enough to take me to his classes, so I could see the environment there before attending. May God Bless you all always, especially at this very difficult time.

John, you were and always be my brother.

We studied Springsteen's political philosophy like medieval scholars (and even put your interpretation on a scroll). You and your family showed great kindness to me way back when we made our journey out to DC. I met your kids when they were still babies and met them again yesterday in Kansas City. You did well. I wish we could have had you longer, but you are now in the promised land.

I love you, John, but I hope God is ready for you!

John and I lived in the same dorm at CMC -- his freshman year, my senior. His floor and my floor were best friends. I will always remember him, swinging the fire extinguisher, yelling "FIRE" out of the elevator. His humor, intelligence, and sweetness will always be how I remember him.

My deepest sympathy to his children, his parents, Jim, Ali and the kids.

John Starr was my friend. Over the years I’ve never met anyone else quite like him. I first encountered him in college at Claremont. As my mind wanders back, I hear echoes of Springsteen blaring from a dimly lit dorm room. The distinct odor of stale beer and cigarettes hangs in the air. Late night discussions on economics and politics blur with the exchange of youthful dreams and aspirations. John’s intelligence, sense of humor, and exuberance for life were infectious. He exuded confidence while maintaining a fragile vulnerability. Honest to a fault, politically incorrect, and constantly searching for the next “Big Funny”, John Starr was my friend.

I loved John Starr. He was funny and smart and kind. When I saw him, he always made me feel special...like I was the best part of his day. He meant what he said, and I knew it. His enthusiasm was contagious. I am glad life is eternal. John and I will be together in Heaven in the red-headed or the talkers section.

Knowing John is one of my first memories of attending Claremont McKenna (of course it was still Claremont Men's College for the first few weeks of our frosh year!). When I think of him today, I think of the grin of an 18-year-old John. He is missed by so many.

To the Starr family:
Once, again I'm sorry for your loss. I grieve to at the loss of Johnny. When one losses: a son, brother, dad, uncle, nephew, boss, leader, mentor, and lastly a friend.
That statement alone shows how much Johnny was loved and willbe missed.
Yes, Johnny race is run. No more steps can be added but more importantly
deleted. A race has a start and finish, but it's a fate formed course. Between those two points defines the runner, family, friends and his part of the world. Johnny thank-you for letting me be part of your race.

John was a steadfast advocate for our organization and he made sure that our health insurance needs were met, no matter what. He fought for us and made it personal. John cared about us and we will never forget him. On behalf of our Board of Directors and 240 employees, we offer our condolences to John's family and friends. He was a true character. He made us laugh and we always had FUN working together. He will be missed.

Goodness, what do I say? It seems like only yesterday that John made a most tearful call to me with his deepest sympathies upon learning of Jim's death. You were a good friend, great producer and like a brother to me. I prayed that Jim will show John around up there. We have wonderful memories of John and for that I am thankful.
