William Timm Obituary

William Timm

July 3, 1929 - November 27, 2024

William (Bill) John Timm died peacefully in Meridian Gardens on November 27, 2024 in Columbus, Neb. at the age of 95.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kearney, Neb. with Rev. John Rasmussen officiating, with a lunch to follow. Private family interment will be held at a later date in the Kearney Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Holy Cross Lutheran Church education funds.

Bill was born on July 3, 1929 in Norfolk, Neb. to William and Alvera (Adamson) Timm, the second of eight children. He was raised on a farm north of Oakdale and graduated from Neligh High School in 1947. He was a lifelong Missouri Synod Lutheran. He was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Neligh.

Bill and Carol (Kruger) were married January 3,1954 in Clearwater, Neb. The couple had five children.

Bill held various jobs before 1950 when he began his employment with Nebraska Public Power District (known then as Consumers Public Power) in O'Neill. He was on the traveling construction crew then worked as a lineman. In 1954 he was transferred to Long Pine as lineman and hydro operator. He was named local superintendent at Minatare in 1963 and sub-district superintendent at the Loup City office in 1970. He then transferred to Ogallala in 1985 as district manager. After 41 years with NPPD, Bill retired in 1992. The couple moved to Kearney in 1995 and to Columbus in 2022. Bill was an active member of various community organizations throughout his career.

Bill was a Korean War Veteran and served from 1951-1953 in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged as Seargent First Class. In 2012 he was proud to be a part of the Korean Honor Flight to Washington D.C. He was a continuous member of the American Legion for 71 years.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer, and loved a good game of pitch. He was a good story teller and never forgot a name or place. Though living in town in his adult years, Bill always managed to find a place to raise cattle. He passed on his strong work ethic and love of the outdoors to his sons.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 71 years, Carol Timm of Columbus; son, William (Sandra) Timm of Goleta, Calif.; son, Jody (Carolyn) Timm of Columbus, Neb.; nine grandchildren, DyAnna Timm (Damon Parks), Rachelle (Kyle) Kowalski, Capri (Ben) Klug, Laura (Steven) Cory, Catie Timm, Isaac Timm, Cally (Scott) Hurley, Andrew (Nicole) Timm, Caleb (Kaylene) Timm; and fourteen great-grandchildren. Also, siblings, Bonnie Eyman of Papillion, Neb., Alice Mae Gentzler of Norfolk, Neb., Joe Timm of Valley, Neb., Mike Timm of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Deanna (Dennis) Leffers of Littleton, Colo.; brothers-in-law, John (Dorthea) Kruger of Lincoln, Neb., Don Maulding of Norfolk, Neb.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law; infant sister; infant son; sons, Marty Paul and Jeffrey Jon; brother, Arden; granddaughter, Andrea Marie; and many loving brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
