Margaret Percival Obituary

Margaret Elizabeth "Peggy" Percival

Peterborough, NH - Margaret Elizabeth Percival, fun loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on August 18, 2024, with her daughter and son in-law by her side. She received love from her son John, many cuddles and loves by her grand person, August, partner Casey and goddaughter Kelly.

Margaret, better known as "Peggy", will be remembered by her family for her firm belief in the strength of a woman and for teaching her children that they can achieve whatever they want in life. Peggy celebrated life every day. She always had music playing in the house, enjoyed dancing, the arts and especially loved going into NY to see musicals, have dinner and a good martini… or two! She loved playing golf at the Millbrook Club and was delighted to win a trophy for a hole in one. Peggy had an eye for decorating and was a fabulous entertainer and cook… throwing memorable parties in their home, bringing joy to her friends and herself.

Peggy was born to her mother Anna Marie Fisher and father, Leroy Fisher in Philadelphia, PA on October 12, 1924. Peggy's father was a civil engineer who built post offices and was loved by all. Peggy's mother was an amazing cook and loving mother. Peggy enjoyed growing up in Silver Spring, Maryland with her parents and older sister Elsie. Her home was the place where all the kids went to have fun, listen to music and roll back the rug to dance. As Peggy got older, she helped the war efforts by selling war bonds. Her parents contributed by opening their home to officers on leave who appreciated a home cooked meal and friendship. The story is told that one day when Peggy heard the doorbell ring; she took a glance out the window to see the most handsome young man standing outside their door. In response Peggy threw off her clothes and put on something more eye-catching. Well it worked, plus Leroy felt that John was the son he never had. They were married on March 30, 1946.

When John got out of the Navy he enrolled in Worcester Polytechnic Institute on the GI Bill to get his degree in mechanical engineering. Son John Fisher Percival arrived April 9, 1948 and four years later their darling daughter Heather Ann Percival joined the family. On completion of John's degree, they moved to Fairfield, CT where they made life-long friends, raised their children with intention, music, pets and laughter.

John was hired by Singer Sewing Machine Company, who sent the family to Massachusetts so that he could get his Masters through the Sloane Fellowship Program. Once again Peggy became very involved with the M.I T program while taking care of her children. Years later Singer asked John to move to Brazil to be the President of Singer. Peggy and John were up for the challenge and moved their family to Brazil. Peggy's love of people and her ability to remember everyone's name made for an awesome team. The experience was also an incredible one for their children.

Peggy and John retired to Greenwich, CT and then later to the Monadnock region to be closer to their daughter, Heather.

We want to thank Chris and her Memory Care team at RiverMead for all of the love and care that was given to our mom, plus all of the others who loved her.

We will be having a family celebration of her life in Maine.
