Alice F. Dixon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 25, 2024.
Alice Faye (Dessasure) Dixon, 75, of Three Rivers, MA, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024 at Mercy Medical Center, after a very long, brave, and courageous battle with cancer.

Alice was born in Camden, South Carolina, the third of nine children, beloved daughter of Esther Lucille (Moss) Slater and Evans Dessasure, Sr. She grew up in Springfield and graduated from Springfield Technical High School. Prior to retiring, she worked passionately as a Residential Supervisor for the Department of Developmental Services for more than 30 years caring for adults with special needs. After retirement, she continued to provide loving assistance, respite and companionship to adults in need of care. Furthermore, she provided foster care services dedicating love, educational support, emotional support, and behavioral management for children making a gateway to rehabilitate and connect them with their families. Alice was known as one who never turned away a person in crisis or need.

Alice had a strong musical voice and sang professionally throughout the city in her earlier years. One of her favorite pastimes was going to the casinos with her daughter and many friends. Most of all, Alice loved being a part of a large family. During her retirement and as a grandmother, she always supported all of her grandchildren to be the happiest, most successful versions of themselves.

She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters Milene Dixon-Willoughby, Virginia Lee (Dixon) Mathis (husband Tyrone Mathis), Kimberly Anne Ciprian (husband Mervin J. Ciprian-Sanchez) all of Springfield; two brothers Kevin M. Slater of Springfield and Duane A. Slater (wife Katara Slater) of Kissimmee, FL, two sisters Sharon Dessasure of Knoxville, TN and Belinda (Slater) Archie (husband Vernal Archie) of Poinciana, FL, six beloved grandchildren Amani O. Smith, Demetri N.B. Smith, Tyrone Mathis III, Hunter Mathis, Adelynn Esther Ciprian and Castiel J. Ciprian, a host of nieces and nephews, and many special friends.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Barry Dessasure, Evans Dessasure Jr. and Marvin Raye Slater, sister Virginia Dessasure, and nephew Barry Davis.

In lieu of funeral services, and at Alice's request, donations may be made in her memory to the Sister Caritas Cancer Center at Mercy Medical Center.

Hey, Ma. It's officially been a year without you. A year without your phone calls, laughter, strength, presence and guidance. To say that I miss you would be an understatement. On the anniversary of your passing, I'm looking towards Heaven saying: "Thank you. Thank you for being there during my roughest moments. Thank you for telling me it's alright to be ME and no one else to please anyone else. Thank you for loving, raising, disciplining, and nurturing me into the woman I am today. I hope we make you proud and carry on your stewardship, strength, and guidance to others in need. I love you, forever." Just Me.

I am saddened by Alice's passing she was a ray of sunshine and hope in everyone's lives, it was a pleasure working with her, she really had everyone's interest at heart and gave her full support to whoever she worked with.

The Lord called for her heavenly support and again she responded, bless her soul.

To her Family and Friends my deepest condolence, cherish her memories and know she is in God's Hand's.

Quote-"We never truly get over a loss, but we can learn to live with the pain and make room for the memories"

Rest in Peace my dear friend.

Nana, we will forever miss you. You´ll always remain in my mind and forever remain in my heart. You are beyond the best Nana anyone could possibly have. Our bond and times together could never be forgotten. I´m beyond missing our laughs, jokes, sleepovers and car rides. The small things meant so much and wishing I could go back in time. I´ll never forget the lectures either, as mad as I would become you were teaching me so much to create me into the person I am today. As you would always say "Nana will always be here" and it´s true. I know you´re forever remain by my side and I will forever remain by yours. I love you forever Nana and can´t wait to continue showing you my great accomplishments to come. You told me in the hospital that I would make a great physician but Nana I will be one of the best because of you. I will carry your name for the rest of my life. It´s still so unreal to not be able to call, text, laugh or hug one more time but again I know you´re here next to me like you´ve always said. I love you so much Nana. Fly high beautiful <3

Mom, I will always remember your laughter, advice, and strength. There were many times you were tough on us. When didn't understand it then, but we do now. You wanted us to perform at our best. We will always love you for bringing out the best in us and inspiring us to be who we are today. We will always have you in our hearts as we move forward in this life without you. Continuing to share our experiences, anecdotes, funny sayings, and moments of joy and happiness. I love you, Mom.
