Andrew R. Haman

May 2, 1930 - January 15, 2025

Andrew R. Haman, a longtime resident of Arlington Heights, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his home on January 15, 2025, at the age of 94.

Born on May 2, 1930, in Berwick, North Dakota, Andrew attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks before serving in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954, stationed in Alaska. He married his beloved wife, Verna, in 1962 in Guttenberg, iowa. Together, they raised three daughters and built a life filled with love and family in Minneapolis, Denver, and eventually Arlington Heights, where they settled in 1968.

Andrew worked for AC Nielsen, a global marketing research firm, for over 30 years. Known for his strong work ethic and love of learning, he embraced technology even in retirement. An avid reader and lifelong learner, Andrew was deeply committed to staying connected with family and friends.

After losing Verna in 2003, Andrew found joy in spending time with his children and grandchildren. He cherished attending their events, playing games and cards, watching sports together, and enjoying family vacations. Known affectionately as "the fun uncle" by his 60 plus nieces and nephews, Andrew had a gift for storytelling and humor.

A man of strong faith, Andrew was an active member of St. James Catholic Church in Arlington Heights since 1968. He often volunteered, including providing companionship to seniors and participating in Adoration at the chapel. In his later years, he also enjoyed participating in a bowling league and a faith-sharing group, as well as reconnecting with retired colleagues via Zoom. Visits with close friends were also something he cherished.

Andrew also had a deep love for animals and found comfort in their presence, especially during his final months.

Preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Clara; siblings Christine, Helen, Henry, Philip, and Stefina; and his wife Verna, Andrew is survived by his sisters Marion, Anna, and Amelia; daughters Ann Haman, Kelly (Greg) Carlson, and Mary Beth (Tom) Mayer; and grandchildren Ben, Lucas, Megan, Madison, and Sydney.

A visitation will be held at St. James Catholic Church, 820 N. Arlington Heights Road in Arlington Heights, IL, on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Interment will take place at St. Mary Cemetery in Guttenberg, Iowa.

Andrew touched countless lives with his kindness and generosity. May he rest in peace.
