To the family of Cpl. Andrew Wilfahrt:
As you may know, the Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation has honored your loved one at its Memorial Day Sunday worship service (each year in May) … since the time of your fallen hero's ultimate sacrifice. We will continue to pay tribute to our nation's veterans … lest we ever forget!
Now we would like to honor you … as the next-of-kin … who have also paid a great price on the altar of liberty. On Sunday 29 September at 11:00 a.m. we will host a Gold Star Family Sunday.
I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship … as we pay tribute to your sacrifice. Our pastor, U.S. Army Chaplain (Colonel-Retired) Kenneth L. Beale, Jr., will preach a message entitled, “By Dying, We Live.” The special music will be the husband/wife vocal/piano — Wickman Duo. Following the worship experience, your family is invited to attend a social time in our Fellowship Hall … with some light refreshments.
As this historic chapel has limited seating, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. To do so, kindly call (651/286-7296) and leave a voice message indicating your veterans' name and the number of persons attending. For more information about the Foundation or driving directions to the historic chapel at Fort Snelling, visit our website at: www.fortsnellingmcf.org
If you are not able to attend, we pray that you would find comfort in knowing that our prayers are with you and all of the fallen heroes.
Respectfully,
Leila Campbell

I am so sorry for your loss. There can be no greater tribute to your son's memory than the work you are doing to guarantee that those beautiful words in our constitution, "Equal justice under the law," will have real meaning for those of us in the LGBT Community. Andrew's spirit lives on through you and your efforts. Bless him. Bless you.

To the family of Cpl. Andrew Wilfahrt:
The Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation will be honoring your loved one at the non-denominational Christian Memorial Day Remembrance worship service at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday 27 May 2012. We will remember the casualties of the Global War on Terrorism from Minnesota … and the bordering states of Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Outside of the historic Fort Snelling Veterans Memorial Chapel will be a “Memorial Garden” filled with some 300 white crosses bearing the names of the war dead … including your loved one.
The Memorial Garden will be encircled with larger white crosses representing all of the wars of our nation's history and give honor to all who have served the United States and made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy today. Wreaths will be placed at the foot of each cross bearing the number of U.S. Service Members killed in each of America's conflicts.
I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship as we pay tribute to the sacrifice made by your service member and family. Our pastor, U.S. Army Chaplain Col. Kenneth L. Beale, Jr., will preach a message entitled, “Lest We Forget Freedom's Cost.” At the conclusion of the worship hour, all of the congregation will be invited to silently pay their respects at the garden and place poppies at each of the crosses. A Memorial Rifle Squad of the Fort Snelling National Cemetery will fire vollies as the US flag is lowered to half-staff and Taps is played. Following your visit to the Memorial Garden, your family is invited to attend an informal reception (weather permitting) outside of the Chapel.
As this Christian worship service has traditionally been well attended, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. To do so, kindly call (651/456-4410) and leave a voice message indicating your veterans' name and the number of persons attending. For more information about the Foundation or driving directions to the historic chapel at Fort Snelling, visit our website at: www.fortsnellingmcf.org Special rates for nearby hotels will be available. For more information call (651/456-4410) or email ([email protected]) the office, and leave your name and contact information.
Also, beginning at dusk (8:30 p.m.) on Saturday 26 May through dawn (6:30 a.m.) on Sunday 27 May, a “Prayer Vigil for Peace” will be held in the sanctuary of the Chapel. You are invited to stop by, light a candle and place it at the foot of your loved one's cross in the Memorial Garden … and then enter the Chapel for prayer.
If you are not able to attend, we pray that you would find comfort in knowing that our prayers are with you and all of the fallen heroes.
Respectfully,

The legacy of CPL Andrew Wilfahrt (552nd MP Company, KIA, Kandahar, Afghanistan, 2-27-2011) is just beginning because of the extraordinary efforts of both his parents, Lori and Jeff Wilfahrt, to seek equality for all Americans through conversations around "Andrew's Round Table" in Minnesota.

I had breakfast with your mom and dad today, Andrew. I'm just getting to know about you, but already wishing I'd have had the chance to meet you before you died. You must know what amazing people your parents are. They miss you terribly, but they are bringing great honor to your memory. In your family, I hear your voice.

The Wilfahrt family, I too just read your story. Andrew sounds like a tremendous person. I wanted to write and say Thank you for him. He could not have had better parents and family I am sure. I send mhy best wishes to you and your entire family.

I do not know this family, but reading what Jeff wrote from a link on Facebook and Minnesota law led me to get to know CPL Andrew. We're in the same boat and my heart aches for you & the loss of your son, Andrew.
Jeff, the optimism, the fight in you and the courage you show is amazing. Thanks for being strong for the rest of us.

I remember walking into Dunn Brother's and you calling out my name with a big smile on your face! I couldn't believe you remembered me after ten years. You were seriously one of the nicest boys at RHS! I was telling John Zschunke how you were someone who really grew into their own in high school. Not many can say that! Thank you for your service to our country! I will remember you.

I have had the privilege not only to know Andy, but have the opportunity to work and train with him as a soldier. We just finished our funeral service for him here in Hawaii. It was so amazing to see so many MPs from the Brigade come to honor his memory. When I met Andy, he came to my unit and platoon, 58th MP Co 1st Platoon Punishers. I will be leaving the Island this week and plan on stopping by his parents house, to give them an American Flag we his platoon mates had flown over the U.S.S. Arizona in his Honor. Andy you will be missed, I just hope you give me the strength to express my words, and the words of your battle buddies to your parents. You will be missed.

I am a Veteran-10yrs and my husband is a retired 20 yr Veteran. I know what a family goes through when loved ones are deployed, it is never easy. Losing a Loved one in the line of duty is devastating. Folks that have never been connected to anyone in the Military just don’t understand the ups and downs and huge sighs and heart sinking feelings that come when the news reports that the US has lost troops. Please know that there are people in this country that are thankful for what your son and other Military personnel do every day. God Bless You and Your family! A Vet in Florida.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed
But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.
For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.
I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you .
I Salute You.

I will always remeber Andy as my science class pal. I remember more about the conversations we had than the class itself. From music, politics, the world we live in. Andy and I shared much of the same views and it was always a treat to get his perspective. His wit, intellegence and outlook on life is what I remeber most. There was one thing you could always counr on with Andy and that was his smile and how genuine he was.

Andy was a creative, musical, funny, genuine soul. I knew him in high school and am very grateful for his friendship. I'll never forget being on the AP Euro trip with him. On day trip to Morocco, we were warned about how aggressive the men might behave toward us girls. Andy offered to keep an eye out for my safety by pretending to be my husband. Sure enough, he yelled at some guy, "Leave my wife alone!" when he got too close. What a guy! My heart goes out the Wilfahrt family. Rest in peace, Andy.

Andy was like our second son and a brother to Simon and Becca. We always had great discussions when Andy came over because he was looking for ways to make changes and progress in the world. In fact sometimes that meant Simon and Andy stayed up all night. He gave hugs, always had a smile and a laugh, and could entertain us with a funny story about some interesting people he had met. We will never forget the day Andy did what no others in our family had the courage to do; he walked across the pond in our pasture. We were so amazed and proud of him and we found out how deep the pond was. He also had the courage to stand up and speak truth to power for us when we needed help. Andy we will miss your spontaneity and your zest for life. We send our heartfelt sympathy to Jeff, Lori, Martha, and Peter.

Andrew lives on in spirit and I know is going to the perfect place for his greatest endevours. He was definately a free spirit and my hope is that his energy is helpng to transform aggression and confusion out into the universe. It is weird to imagine him gone. I met Andrew about 6 years ago. We met at a Vera's coffee shop in Minneapolis. Andrew gave me one of the most treasured gifts I have ever received and still hold onto. He composed 2 pieces of music, taped it and gave me the sheet music for it. It now means alot more to me! I last saw him a few weeks for his deployment. I was surprised yet proud of him for joining the military. We spoke for a few minutes, I thanked him for his service and he left smiling! I'll remember that smile!

I have never met your son, but feel compelled to thank the military whenever I see them for the sacrifices they make for our country. As a female that has natural talent in a non-traditional field of employment, (generally employing men) and a 15-year-old daughter who shares the same talent, I am grateful to you and your son. In no other country in the world could my daughter and myself be respected and in some countries even forbidden to work with the gifts God has given us. I am so sorry your family had to give the ultimate sacrifice. May you feel God near during this time.

Andrew- it makes me sad to think the how the world will be that much darker without your charismatic personality. I know you always my life brighter when we worked together at Dunn Bros. and even after when we'd have crazy long text conversations about nothing... and everything. My deepest sympathy to your family. With love.

Although we have never met, because Andrew was a young man of such extraordinary quality, I am sure that yours must be a wonderful family, and that you must love Andrew a great deal. Please know that he leaves behind him a trail of joy, happiness, and positively affected lives. God bless.

My heart goes out to the family of Andy. I had the pleasure of knowing him in high school. We sang in choir together and were in Music Theory together as well. He was truly talented musically. He played piano like an angel and now he is surrounded by them. I am saddened by the loss of such a good person in a world lacking of good. Rest in peace, Andy. You will be missed!
