Arthur Torode Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 25 to Nov. 27, 2007.
TORODE _ Arthur Reginald January 26, 1926 - November 23, 2007 Art died peacefully November 23, 2007 after a six month battle with cancer. His wife Betty, children and grandchildren were at his side every step of the way. Art is fondly remembered by children John (Cassie Campbell), Gayle (Richard White), and Debra; brother Frank Torode (Yolande); brother-in-law John Roberts (Barb). Grandfather, mentor and good guy to grandchildren Jessica (Steve), Gillian (Jason), Kelsey, Jeffery, David, Reece and Cole. Art was born in Toronto and later moved to Montreal where he graduated from Montreal High. He went on to graduate from Shiloh Manitoba Paratroop School. Following the war he attended McGill University where he completed a degree in Geology in 1949. Art joined Shell Oil in 1950; an employer he was proud to be with for the next twenty years from Big Spring, Texas, Houston, Colorado, Regina, Calgary and Edmonton. Art retired in 1973 to pursue house building, art lessons, sailing and overall good times. Art loved life and entertained old friends and new ones alike. He loved cruising with his wife Betty of fifty-nine years and regaled strangers with jokes and stories over rum and cokes. Their home was always open to family and friends and their perfect spot on the lake was a source of pleasure for Art. Art's friendship and sense of humour will be missed. A celebration of Art's life will be held from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. on November 30 at the Hotel Arts. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alberta College of Art and Design where a scholarship has been started in his name.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

John, Mrs. Torode and family, Barb and I were so sad to hear of Art's passing. He was one of a kind, a great guy with an infectious laugh and true love of life and people. I know his loss leaves a big hole in your hearts, but remember that he touched many people and we are all better for having known him, and enjoyed his kindness and great sense of humour. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you continue to adjust to life without him.

To all the family
Our condolences to all of you.
Bob and I were lucky enough to live across from Betty and Art for over 30 years. We have so many fond memories of Art. He will always be in our hearts. Together we had so much fun from deciding who would be first in the water in the spring ,( Art fell in one year and made it first) to working togher on the yard and dock, to sitting on the porch with a beer ( or rum and coke for Art)telling tall tales. Art was never at a loss for storytelling . He will always be with us in fond memories Linda and Bob Smith

We were fortunate to have Art and Betty as our neighbours and friends while we were in Calgary. Art's knowledge and interests were widespread and significant. We will miss Art, his friendship, his hospitality and gregarious humour. However, our memories of him will be lasting and Betty and the family have our deepest condolences.

A sad passage that unfortunately we must all make - but believe there are happy times together ahead. Deb, your dad always stood by your side in life, the only difference now is he will be with you always... I remember his jokes and friendly nature - I am sure all who are close will miss him dearly. Take care, and draw strength in those that you love.

I LOVE YOU ALWAYS AND FOREVER

November 26, 2007

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
