Dennis Matthew Murray

Dennis Matthew, was born Nov. 27, 1945 in OKC, OK. He was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, Aug. 10, after a short but valiant battle with cancer. His final thoughts were concern for and care of others. An accomplished musician on the piano and violin, 'Denny' graduated from Southeast High School and continued his education at Midwest Christian College, where he earned the degree of Bachelor of Arts. He went on to receive a Master of Divinity degree at Lincoln Christian Seminary. He was an accomplished Bible teacher and scholar who taught at Midwest Christian College, Platte Valley Bible College, and Dakota Bible College. He also pastored churches at New Hartford, IL, Driftwood, OK, Moore, OK and Deer Creek, OK. During the past 23 years he has served as chaplain at the OU Medical Center, ministering to the patients and their families. He also ministered to and dearly loved, the hospital employees and staff. They returned his love tenfold in the way they cared for him as a patient at Presbyterian Tower during his last days on this earth. Whether teaching, preaching, or engaging in every day conversation, Dennis, with his soft spoken slow drawl, was listened to as a man of abiding faith who walked with his Lord. There are few who are called both a gentle man and a gentleman; just as we knew all was well with Dennis' soul in this earthly life, we know he was received with a 'well done, my good and faithftul servant,' and all is well with this gentle servant's soul into eternity. Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Anne, and his three sons, Jason Murray and wife Karen and grandson Iain of Siloam Springs, AR; Nathan Murray and wife Mandi and grandson Chase and granddaughter Brooklyn of OKC; and Caleb Murray of Denver, CO; stepsons Thomas Hoyt of Fukuoka, Japan, and Michael Hoyt and wife Cassie of OKC; brother Jimmy Murray of OKC and sister Tamsen Murray of Anaheim, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Mildred Murray, and infant son, Jarrod. His life will be celebrated in a memorial service at 10 a.m. Saturday at Draper Park Christian Church, 8500 South Walker, officiated by his son, Pastor Jason Murray, and his chaplain partner Danny Cavett.
