I learned a lot from Gordon when I became a Principal Examiner. His calm, considered, wise words helped me greatly in our meetings. He was a man of great intellect but also a loving and caring husband and parent - he always spoke warmly of his family. I have learned from him the importance of faith. God bless him.

A wonderful priest, man and teacher. We called him Rev Ged in the days he ran the Crewe Grammar School chess club. He managed to keep the right balance between friendship and respect with his students. I am sure that he was a key figure in my faith journey towards Christianity, even though I was an aetheistic teenager. I was so privileged to speak at the 40th anniversary of his ordination. I remain indebted to him for his kindness and wisdom.

I worked with Gordon at AQA on examining work. He Chief Examiner for the old Spec A and me Chief examiner for the old Spec C. I always enjoyed the calm air he brought to proceedings his counsel at times and his generosity of thought, word and deed always. Although fairly recently retired from AQA work I know he will be sadly missed by all. Kevin James

This comes as sad news to me and my family, Gordon was a close family friend for many years and he helped us all get through some really tough times a few years ago. He was always there to comfort us if things got really bad. He was the person who christened me back in 1992, he was present at my confirmation of first communion in 2003 when I was 11. He will be sorely missed by all but I will still have some pictures and many fond memories of my time with him.

Gordon was my friend and mentor for many years. We had a lovely weekend together in November when he celebrated and preached at St. Mary's
