GRACE LYNAH DAVIS

Grace Lynah Davis FLORENCE - Funeral service for Mrs. Grace Lynah Davis will be conducted 12 Noon Saturday, January 19, 2013 at J. O. & Annette Smith Memorial Chapel, 307 S. Johns St., Florence. Interment will follow 9AM Monday, January 21, 2013 at Florence National Cemetery directed by Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC. Mrs. Davis, a daughter of the late Casey and Laura Lynah was born on December 1, 1939 in Cottageville, SC. She was the "baby" of thirteen children. Mrs. Davis died on Monday, January 14, 2013 at McLeod Regional Medical Center after an illness. After completing high school, Mrs. Davis attended and graduated from South Carolina State University with a B.S. Degree in Biology. In 1968 she married the late William Clyde Davis. Mrs. Davis began her teaching career in Dillon, SC. In 1967, she relocated to Florence and taught at the "Old Wilson High School" on Athens St. She taught science at Southside Middle School. In 1977, she decided to leave the school system to follow her dream of selling Real Estate. She was one of the first African American Women to own her own Real Estate Company-Lynah Davis Realty Corporation. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by five brothers, Henry "Son" North, Ozzie Lynah, Thaddeus Lynah, Bennett Lynah and Joseph Lynah; three sisters, Nellie Summers, Catherine Smith and Vesnolla Johnson. Survivors include her two children, Andrea Charmaine "Cha Cha" Davis Brown and Lora Lynah "Lynn" Davis; special nephew, Earl Jerone Lynah; three grand-children; two sisters, Lula (Ted) Coan and Ruth Lynah; special aunt, Mary North; son-in-law, Malloyd Brown; sister-in-law, Ida North; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close family friends. The family will receive friends at the home, 110 Shenandoah Lane, Florence.
