Hard to put into words all you were to me! From you taking me fishing during the summers, endless hours chatting on the water, trips to Dairy Queen, watching sports, or just telling jokes. You were always funny, quick with a one liner, and always ready and able with your time and attention! You were a proud Marine, but never spoke of the war, a great friend and grandfather!
The trout in NH are much safer now!

Jeff Muir is a colleague and friend. He spoke highly of his grandfather. It is clear that Hugh had a positive effect on his grandson. My prayers are with the family during this trying period.

Hughie was like the Mayor of Manchester. He knew everyone, and had many friends. Great pool player and had great sense of humor and dry humor.. Always will cherish the good times we had at the Post Office, pool league and Sweeney Post. Rest in Peace Hugh!!!

I was very fortunate to have met Hugh at Smith family gatherings. He had so many Manchester stories to share. I loved to hear him talk about the ledge in the old days. Peace to Hugh and his loving family.

One of my favorite people in the Post Office. Pitched on the softball team well into his 40's. A great guy, with better stories, plus a fellow Jarhead, God bless, and Semper Fi, Hughie. R.I.P. my friend

Dear Marilyn and Family : So many years...so many memories. Now, Hugh engages Ellen and Carl, and Aunt Gin, and so many other friends and family members who have paved the way for him.
We think of you often when visiting Manchester, on occasion. Our condolences and deepest sympathy to you, Cousin, and know that the tears of sadness today will hopefully turn to tears of happiness tomorrow as you all recall the good times...happy days...so many good times over so many years.

One can only imagine how impressed I was as an 8 yr old when my first cousin,Hughie, a Marine, returned from WW2 and with another jarhead friend helped me build a bridge with my new erector set And I'll never forget when we were forunate enough to travel to Ireland with a Group, that at a hotel in Donegal, where Hughie spent the night playing snooker with the help while we hit the Town. Upon our late return Hughie wanted to buy us a drink, but it was very late, so he asked his new friends "when does the bar close" and was told "October". RIP Billy and Noreen McCarthy

Uncle Hugh took me to Sunapee for my first ski trip when an all day ticket was less than a dollar and to Wear's Mt. William Pond to catch my first trout on a boat rented from Red Brown-we all enjoyed saying that name. RIP Ed
