James Stuart Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 11, 2023.
The first of two children, James William Stuart, was born in Fort Lee, New Jersey to Bernadine Marie Kronewitter Stuart and James Pope Stuart. Jim died quite suddenly on July 3, 2023 while shopping in Nevis where he had made his home for over 20 years. Jim is predeceased by his parents and the mother of his children, Donna Bruno Stuart. Jim is survived by his wife, Penny Harris Stuart, and adult children, Amy Stuart (Mark), Sarah Stuart (Eric), and James G. Stuart. He is also survived by his grandchildren Casey and Kate, Claudia and Colin, and Eleanor and Sophie. Jim is also survived by his sister, Marylou Stuart, niece, Jessica, great-nephew, Blake, and great-niece, Reagan.

Jim grew up in Fort Lee, NJ and attended Madonna Grammar School and All Hallows High School in New York City. Jim then went on to Seton Hall University and Fairleigh Dickinson University where he studied dentistry. He graduated in 1961 and served as a Naval Dental Officer in South Carolina for 3 years. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy, he returned to Fort Lee where he began his dental practice. He raised his family in River Vale, NJ. He was also an active member of the Fort Lee Rotary and enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Eventually, Jim moved to the Caribbean, first to Montserrat and then to Nevis where he continued to practice dentistry full-time and then part-time until he was 80. As he got older, he didn't enjoy cold weather, so decided to retire in Nevis permanently.

Jim embraced life fully and was often described by friends as intelligent, witty, and generous. He was an animal lover and could always be counted on to help the Nevis animal groups. He had a big heart and Jim would want us to move forward now, as we must, without him, and in a manner that would make him proud.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Nevis this summer and in Fort Lee, New Jersey at a later date.
