Josephine Nova Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 23, 2024.
Josephine Nova, lovingly known as JoAnn, 77, of the Upper West Side passed away on February 15, 2024 in New York City at Mt Sinai Hospital.

JoAnn was born in Brooklyn to Fiore and Jennie Perrone Nova on October 12, 1946. A graduate of New Utrecht High School she went on to have a successful years-long career in Human Resources on Wall Street beginning with Lehman Brothers and ending with Drexel Burnham. Several stints would follow until she found a second career in sales as a wine rep first followed by a cheery role in spirits. JoAnn so enjoyed her education in these industries and was proud of the strides she'd made as a mature woman breaking into a new field. Her role brought her to Scotland where she perfected her palate for scotch. In every capacity she gained lifelong friends thanks to her outgoing nature and bountiful heart. JoAnn was the consummate cosmopolitan woman having delighted in European travel, fine foods, theater and live music. She had a keen eye for stylish clothing and jewelry. Her generosity knew no bounds as she was first to quietly help someone in need. This same unselfishness proved to be limitless as she was recognized as an Organ Donor Hero by LiveOnNY.

JoAnn is preceded in death by her parents and twin brother, Michael, who passed in February 2018. She is survived by older brother and sister, Lou Nova and RoseMarie (Mike) Savino, five nieces with whom she had deep and meaningful relationships, their husbands, and nine grand nieces and nephews, all of whom she gleefully spent time with going to Broadway, over meals or just catching up on the phone. JoAnn's connections to all of these kids was such that they would call and make plans with her to do anything she would recommend. Entirely flattered she would remark, "how lucky am I that my nieces and nephews want to spend time with an old woman!"

Memorials may be given to St Jude Research Hospital and Planned Parenthood.

The family owes a debt of gratitude to her favorite doctor, Stanley Schneller, M.D.; Lori Tice, who gave her an unimaginable gift of hope; Rogosin West Side Dialysis and all of the LiveOnNY team who were sensitive to the needs of JoAnn's family, especially the Family Services department, in her final days of earthly life.

A memorial is being planned for early summer 2024.
