June M. McCarty Obituary

June M. McCarty, of Hilltown Twp. and formerly of Philadelphia, PA, died suddenly Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at her home. She was 84.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Arline (Castelow) McCarty.

A 1949 graduate of Frankford High School, Philadelphia, she attained a Bachelor of Science Degree from Drexel Institute of Technology, Philadelphia, in 1953, and later earned a Teaching Degree in Elementary Education from Temple University, Philadelphia. Having completed the necessary years and educational courses, her certification in Elementary Education became permanent in Pennsylvania on March 19, 1962.

In her early years, she was employed as a teacher for the Philadelphia School District as well as in Bellmawr Park, New Jersey. Later, she owned and operated an antique shop at 18th & Chestnut Streets in Philadelphia for a number of years.

She was a member of the Women's University Club of Philadelphia and the American Association of University Women during the 1950's, and the Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority. Her interests included reading and watching old Western and classic movies.

She was a member of Our Lady of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Hilltown, PA.

She is survived by a brother, John ?Jack? McCarty and his wife Ann, of White Haven, PA; a niece, Cecilia (Marshall) Nocella and her husband Joseph, of Hilltown; two great nephews, Matthew Nocella and his wife Jessi and James Nocella; and a great niece, Laura Snyder and her husband Jason. She was preceded in death by three sisters, her identical twin sister Joan F. Marshall, Arline Doris Quigley and Nancy E. Caiazzo.

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 5, 2014, at 10:30 AM in Our Lady of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Route 152 & Broad Street, Hilltown, where family and friends may call from 9:30 AM until the time of Mass. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, P. O. Box 31, Hilltown, PA 18927.
