June Rogers Roberts

June 4, 1930 - November 30, 2019

June Roberts of Amity, GA and Huntington, WV passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 30, 2019, at the age of 89. She was preceded in passing by her husband of 65 years, Joseph Linton Roberts, Jr. She is survived by her sons Joe, Darryl and Mike, her grandchildren Chris, Sarah (Robert), Evy, William and Thomas, and her great-grandson Declan.

She was born and raised in Amity, GA and graduated from Lincoln County public schools and Georgia State College for Women (now Georgia College & State University), and went on to earn her Master's Degree in Education from Marshall University.

She met Joe in Atlanta and they were married on September 6, 1953, and were together until his last day on January 14, 2019. After Joe's retirement from Marshall University in 1997, they spent time in both Huntington and Amity.

She taught English and Special Education in Atlanta, in Yankton, SD, in Cincinnati, and in Huntington. She shared her love of learning with generations of students, and also served as a volunteer reading tutor for children with reading challenges. As well, she loved reading as a personal hobby and had an extensive library of books of all types, carefully organized by author and topic.

She was warm and generous with her family, friends and acquaintances, and did everything she could to help others.

She had a wide variety of friends and interests. She shared a keen interest in artistic glass with Joe and they spent years traveling to glass shows and talking with fellow enthusiasts. She was a dedicated Marshall sports fan and a longtime football and basketball season ticket holder. She loved baseball and was a passionate fan of the Cincinnati Reds - especially in the team's Crosley Field days - and the baseball and other sports teams her sons played on. She also loved animals and cared for many cherished dogs and cats over the years.

She is greatly missed by her family and friends.

Graveside services will be held May 4 at 1pm at Greenwood Baptist Church in the Amity Community, with a reception following at the church social hall.
