Kelly Thompson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 29, 2024.
Kelly Jane Thompson, born May 19, 1969, devoted wife and mother, arrived at her eternal heavenly destination on April 26, 2024, where she surely is celebrating with all the family who preceded her.

Kelly was a woman filled with love for her family and for Jesus. She was described as the "glue" of her family and will be missed to an extent that is unmeasurable. She always showed kindness and anticipated needs of family, friends and strangers. She was tireless in her generosity and set the bar high with her work ethic. In her free time she loved to crochet, read and garden.

Kelly graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science in International Studies from Kennesaw State University in 1991. Kelly was a Homeschool mom for her four children and enjoyed the challenges and the field trips. She was a dedicated educator and she loved her classroom students during her tenure at Cumberland Christian Academy and especially loved teaching Theology.

Her greatest influence and what she was best at was her love for her family. Kelly was preceded in death by her father, Ken Seifert. She is survived by her best friend and love of her life, her wonderful husband of 31 years, Kevin, her children Violet, Carter, Anabel and Gideon; her mother Judy Seifert, and her brother Kevin Seifert.

A private family graveside service will be held at Honey Creek Woodlands in Conyers, Georgia. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.

My first memory of Kelly was 20 years ago. Carter and my son Garrett were in Pre K. I wasn't really looking for a new friend, I was so focused on my kids. Kelly was not having it - she was going to be my friend whether I wanted to or not. I have teased her about this over the years BUT what a blessing to be her friend!!! Kelly, I wake up most days and can't believe it. My heart cracked when Carter called. Like so many of your friends, I have known you for a lot of years! I imagined that we would be much older friends going to lunch and talking the afternoon away. You are so loved and will always be missed. I love you my sweet/sassy friend. Thank you for telling me that you loved me, too. Jeanie Human

Kelly,
I remember you in all of the Peachtree 5k´s and blackberry picking. I remember your tight hugs and early morning breakfasts. You were always on the move, taking care of your children who you adored so beautifully. You were an amazing mother, a fierce friend to my mother and an incredible role model. I hope you are happily rejoicing in heaven.
All of my love.

Unfortunately when I tried to send what we remember about Kelly only our photo went through So what we liked so much about Kelly was her great smile and sense of humor. I remember when she had her 1st child, Violet when she was a little girl & saw each other we'd have some fun.

Sending love and prayers! Some of my favorite memories shared with Kelly and family! Myrtle Beach, Innisbrook and Brunswick. Horseback riding at the cabin and trail riding. Getting knocked off of Pet by a tree. Playing "SORRY" all night! The best of times! Love you all! I know she is rejoicing in Heaven with Ken!

One of the many memories I have of Kelly, that will always bring a smile . Hiking up "Stone Mountain " together and laughing all the way up. Her bigger than life presence is going to be missed but she is now organizing things and celebrating for when she meets us all again. May God bless everyone during this difficult time. May your dear memories bring warm smiles in time. Love Garrett and Kathleen

Kelly was such a large part of my high school years. I practically lived a good bit of my high school weekends at Kelly´s (in the pool). Always so generous and such a kind heart. I feel blessed that Kelly was a part of my high school life. May God bless Judy and her whole family during this difficult time.

My 1st memory of Kelly was at Westside Church. Our kids were similar in age and we hit it off right away. She was so kind to us as newcomers and invited us to the Thompson home right away. I remember the hammock on the back porch piled with our kids giggling loudly. Kelly and Anabel came to Texas once years ago and we had a great time staying up way to late chatting about life. I loved her, she was a sister to me while we were in Georgia.

Something I learned from Kelly... tell it like it is. Don't beat around the bush. Be real. Don't mince words. Don't sweat the small stuff. Do hard things.

Kelly was a wonderfully close friend in high school, though I'm sad to admit we didn't keep in close touch over the years beyond Facebook. It's still a shocking loss. Wishing many happy thoughts and memories to her family and all who knew her bright smile.

Although it has been many, many years since we saw Kelly and Kevin, I remember lots of hanging out and talks about parenting and other things. I pray for peace and healing for the family in this difficult time.

Our hearts are sad and broken for you and the family.
A special memory I (Molly) have of Kelly is at ISHC the last year her father attended. It was a very hot summer, air conditioners were breaking down all over camp. Ken was running around rounding up new ones. I heard Kelly ask him "Dad when am I going to get to sit with you at a worship service?" After his passing just a few months later, I was so glad to learn they did have an opportunity to do so.
Today they and your father are in the presence of God. What a glorious time for them.
We hurt but they are rejoicing!
Prayers for the comfort and peace only He can provide.
Love and prayers

The first time I ever saw Kelly was summer 2004 at VBS at Westside Baptist. I remember what she was wearing. A denim jumper. And she was completely in charge of whatever she had been tasked with... I think checking people in. We didn´t talk but she left an impression on me because she knew what she was doing and she did it well! I may not have remembered her after that except that I saw her at Fellowship Pool and immediately recognized her as "the VBS lady". I think she was pregnant with Anabel at the time... does that sound right?? Anyway, I struck up a conversation and we quickly became friends. So much in common, even that early on.

One time both of our families went camping together, and it was a great fit because of the ages of all 8 kids. Kelly had all the "right" stuff for camping. I was so envious! She told me how she and Kevin, on a previous camping trip, had walked through the campground, making note of everything they saw on the other sites they thought they might need. So that weekend we enjoyed their canopy, string lights, TV (haha), saw their cots (bought those for ourselves almost immediately)... but what I thought was the most cool thing was her clear, foldable, 2-sided sink!

Kelly knew what she wanted and needed and wasn´t afraid to go after it. I´m glad she did because life is too short.

Watching Kelly and Kevin date in college, marry and grow in her faith and being such a great wife, mother and friend. Kelly will be missed by so many. Our love and prayers for the family
